pre-ordered one today

I have 4 hitec 5245mg servos on the way but still up in the air on the motor\esc choices. Seems to be a pretty wide range of weights people are using on this size plane.

I am starting from scratch on the batteries also and want to get something I can put in series for an 8s setup on a 70-80ish size plane in the future (like the upcoming edge).

Any general preference for 3700 vs 4000 size?

Motrofly

Where do I order the Motrolfly 3625-800? I have a Red 59" Slick in the cart but can't seem to find the Motrolfly 3625-800 on the 3DHS site. What am I missing?

We don't sell Motrolfly. Or scorpion. Or Eflight. We recommend them as being the right size, but we don't sell them.

Does that mean that the Hacker is what 3DHS would recommend?

We like the Hackers, yes, but any of the listed motors are good choices. there are others, too.

Red on order, sounds like the Motrolfly 3625-800 is the motor to get. I enjoy the GR45 in my Yak, but the GR60 in my Sukhoi is a blast.

It's rougly an ounce and half heavier than the Hacker, and makes another 150W or so.

Preordered my 59 today. I'm going to use the 3620-750 in her, with a 15x7-8 prop and 4s 4000 batteries. I think it will be great with that setup, especially at 4lb 10 oz or lighter. I pretty much can't wait!

All recommended motors are nice and super smooth... Hacker is the top of the group IMO for raw quality, but they're also the most expensive.

Motrofly motors

Thought I would share an email exchange I had with Ken earlier this week if it helps any of you considering the motrofly.

This is the question I sent him:

I am about to order a 3dhs Slick 59 and looking for a motor to run on 4s. Saw Joe Smith had used both the 3620 and 3625 on this size plane. Is there a preferred choice for this size and if so when do you expect to have stock.

This is the response I got from Ken (almost immediately I might add):

Both motors work well and will give you plenty of power, but for 3D I like to offer shorter motors as there is less of a chance for the shaft to flex causing the magnets to hit the stator. This can cause several problems over time, I've not yet seen a failure in the 3625 due to this, but it is possible.

Do to the Chineese new years we are still waiting for more 3620 motors, but should be in a few weeks. This motor is 8.5 ounces with all hardware.

There will be a new 4315 that will weigh 11 ounces with all hardware and will be for guys that want the most power possible. The 3620-750 does a great job with plenty of vertical, the 4315 will just be a step above the 3620
