Here's my build thread on the 59 over at High Alpha http://www.highalpha.org/forum/viewt...hp?f=4&t=12458

I may post it here and on 3DRC also but will see as there's already so much info on this great plane here already

Very nice build review RCPilot. I especially liked the high quality in-flight photos. I picked up a Red '59 during the recent sale and will reference your tips when I assemble her.

I ordered the 4315 714 and was thinking of using one of the ZTW "B" series speed controls. They have adjustable BEC output voltage with a 5A continuous current rating. I've heard that their leads are on the short side. For anyone using the ZTW's, are there any issues with the leads not being long enough to reach the battery connector?

I've read that it is not recommended to lengthen the input wires, as an increase in voltage ripple can occur which can damage the input caps over time.

Thanks,

BUD...

Nice build log. Did I read that right that you glued in your wing tube? Don't think I'll be doing that as I remove the wings for transport.

I haven't, haha! Although I did on another plane once and regretted it, LOL!

iPhone 5 Camera Test: 3DHS 59 Slick Low and Slow 3D! (4 min 59 sec)

Will maybe remove the video in a few days due to it not being up to my standards. Although I'll see what you guys think of it It was just a test of the camera and iMovie app, haha!

Don't have time to read all 400+ messages at the moment, but what do you recommend for ideal motor/prop/battery combo for this plane?

I love the Motrolfly 4315-714 on 4S in this plane...as do many others.... The plane in the video that "RCPilot1234" posted just a few posts back is powered by one.

Hey buddy, this is the setup I have and is pretty much the best most expensive setup you can get for this plane

Motor: Motorfly DM4315-714 lightened version (only available from Subsonic planes)
Prop: Xoar 15x7
Battery: Thunder Power 3850mAh 65C 4S (will give flight times of around 4-5 minutes flying hard and 6-7 going gentle. Keeps the weight down fairly well too )
ESC: Castle ICE Lite 100
Servos: Qty 4. HS7245MH set to 7.4V (can do this by powering the servos through a 2S LiPo or setting the BEC on the ICE Lite 100 to 7.4V (you will need the Caslte USB Programming kit to do that). Alternatively you could use an external BEC like I do (I use Castle 10A BEC - still need the programmer to adjust voltage, though). If using external BEC or 2S LiPo to power servos, make sure to disconnect the middle red wire coming from the servo wire on the ESC to the receiver to stop it feeding any voltage into it )
Servo arms: Du-Bro ones (on the 3DHS site)

Hope this helps!

Do I need the Ice 100 with the motrolfly motor or can I get away with the Ice 75 ESC? I ask because I have a 75 laying around.
