Wow, my girlfriend is looking for the shrek dragon kite all over... any idea where it can still be bought?

...have built a lightweight interchangeable 3D Vector Unit using 'Swashplate' - technology:

This Vector Unit weighs only 42 grs. and comes with an excellent performing Mighty Midget 'Gold-Line' - 7.5 grs. 12N/16P BL-Motor, controlled by a 0.9grs. weighing YGE 4 ESC.

http://www.microbrushless.com/productsG3.htm

The Swashplate is moved by 2 Modelcraft 5.5grs. Metal Gear servos.

The unit runs on a 3S - 200mA 20C AHA-Lipo (smaller kites) or 3S-460mA (larger kites) and generates around 200grs. of thrust, using a 5043 GWS prop.

It could be used in leightweight Vector Kites up to a total flightweight of 350 grs.

Oh wow, that is one sweet motor. 200g of thrust for an 8g motor is amazing efficiency. Got to get me one of those. Where did you buy yours?

New Bi-Rotor Vector Unit

Progress never stops!

I've developped a very special Birotor-Vector Unit, consisting of

1 Gimbal
2 Counterrotating BL-motors
2 9035 Props
2 MG Servos
2 ESCs
2 Receivers

Total weight is around 240grs., thrust should be around 900 grs.

Video of the today's demo/maiden:

*** SORRY for the bad camera adjustments :-)) ***

===> New video under

RC - VECTOR KITE 34 - 2 * birotor vector propulsion * NEW VIDEO * (2 min 53 sec)

taken on Oct. 7th, 2012, at Menden Kite Festival ( Germany )

Have fun!

That's very nice FM. What is the advantage of coaxial? Just for anti-torque roll?

I am gonna guess that and a lessening of gyroscopic effects on the mount and servos...

Hi guys,

Why 2 receivers?

With the very first version of the bi-vector unit I tried 1 receiver and I used a V -cable to plug in the 2 ESCs. First tests showed then, that one of the both motors has stopped often under full throttle.
Tests with a 2nd lightweight receiver only for the ESC of the 2nd motor showed faultless function all over the full RPM - range.

Now, it is also possible to stop one motor when the vector kite is soaring, and only a little thrust (and energy) is used for flight direction controls.

"....I am gonna guess that and a lessening of gyroscopic effects on the mount and servos... "

Yes, that's another advantage, especially for use in rotating kites, where the LiPo-pendulum weight is influenced by the torque of a single-directional turning BL-motor.

It was a little hard to see the RC kite, but the gimbal was interesting. I suppose the hat-cam was aimed a bit high. I am experimenting with the same hat-cam idea and it can be tricky to keep the subject centered. I am trying the recycled sunglasses idea. The mini DVR spy camera sets on a tiny shelf glued to one arm and one lens has a thin piece of short tubing glued on the lens to act as a sighting device. As long as the camera is aligned, and the subject is kept in the center of the short tube, all is good.
