Had a great day at George's place yesterday! He has an awesome horizon to horizon flying field. The air was fantastic, the sky was blue, and the temperature was perfect.
We had a lot of fun launching and seeing how well we did on the altimeter. I suspect there must be something about the dirt on the field because when you threw the Concept it tried to get as far away from the dirt as it could. I think that 237' is a new personal best for me.

Great place for a motorcycle ride too. The only problem is that you have to make sure that if you are behind someone, you need to be on the upwind side. It's amazing how much dust a motorcycle can kick up.

Steak for dinner! YUMMY!!!!

Thanks to George, Jen, and Wesley for a really fun day.

Cheers,

Gary

"Yellow Caps" test flight

Here they are in action, the little "Yellow Cap" beasts.....
Just returning from first test flight
The first thing I noticed was the missing "plobb" of the short rudder deflection during release. It seems that the metal housing adds additional stiffnes to the whole string system and the rudder won't deflect as much as on much flexier plastic housings of any servo I have used before.
I have tested under maximum possible string tension (even though not necessary), the centering is just perfect, well inside the remaining system flex.
After the servo change, a total of 3,8g nose weight is reduced and finally I can get my perfect CG.
So far, I'm happy with the test result and will make the "Yellow Cap" servo the "golden" standard for any of my future planes to be build.

Soon as I have time, I will build a wing for testing this sweet little things for RDS functionality.....

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Roland, you're constant refinement of an already amazing product is commendable.

Four days off can be good

Got to fly this afternoon for the first time in four days-
Been swinging a 24oz framing hammer all week.
Getting to throw the concept felt way good
Workin Construction is a great cross training activity for dlg.

7 months off cannot be good! believe me (am I just depressed or something?) Glad you're enjoying your Concept. I would get one without hesitation if I had the money because I know it would be well spent!

Question: What gauge of wire for these servos?

It is Kevlar string #4 0.34m/m dia. 23.6KGS or 53LBS test.

That is good to know, but I was wondering about the servo leads for gauge. Should have been more careful with my wording.
