KEEP GOING--------

I'M LOVIN THIS THREAD.....
As a kid growing up in the early 50's, I collected pictures of any airplanes I could find. Living very close to BIGGS AIRFORCE base was a kids dream. When you heard the thunder of those BIG 4 engined piston bombers taking off.....They rattled windows for MILES......I still get goose bumps thinking about them....And too many moves and years ago I lost all my pictures...damn...

The Curtiss is a P-40Q, the last derivative of the P-40.

I think the turboprop is a Westland Wyvern.

As to the vintage pusher bipe, is it a Voisin?

Regarding the CG-4a nose, there was a CG4a AND a C-47 on display in a dome at Mere St. Eglise (circa 1990). It was right near the church the paratrooper got caught on (Red Buttons (?) in "The Longest Day").

Still there last year and that dome of course is a open parachute shaped museum built on the location of the burning house in the movie. And the church still has a dummy hanging from the steeple in a parachute. Great place. There is a picture of the original trooper visiting there (in 64 I think it was) on a plaque in the square. It was Pvt John Steele and he died in 1969

I can't remember if the pusher is a Voisin or a Farman. This is really awful since I saw it about 2 weeks ago- it's up in Rhinebeck.

Westland Wyvern. Among the ugliest airplanes ever created, IMHO.

Rhinebeck? Aargh! I was just up there a few weeks ago. If it's the bird in the back of the new museum building (far corner from the office/gift shop), then I know exactly where it is....but I don't recall WHAT it is. I even took an artsy-fartsy picture through the canard (not a success!).

Sorry for going off topic, but just had to post this.

Ste Mere Eglise church now. Look closely and you'll see the effigy paratrooper hanging from the steeple.
By the way,in the town there are as many pictures from the days when they were shooting The Longest Day as there are taken 6 June 1944

Yep You are all right with the Voisin "The Bird of Passage"

And I bet the Wyvern's mother likes it? Cos not may others do....

Westland must have subcontracted a French designer?

HP 115, if memory serves. I always wondered how well the engine breathed at high angle of attack.

This wasn't designed by drawing on paper but from foldinging it.

Looks like a paper dart!
