Pricey, but nice.

I asked a model maker if he could make a spoked steering wheel for my Racing Runabout and he quoted 300 bucks. Custom work ain't cheap!

I've wondered why there isn't more of a market for upgrade parts for the Dumas... seems like a nice little cottage opportunity, that even Wet Goose doesn't address fully.

You know,... before I clicked on Tom's link, I looked at the steering wheel
picture you posted and said, "At least a hundred and fifty..."

That looks a bit like the one I made for my Triple. The Dumas wheel and some SS pins is all it takes!

Are you kidding me that is gorgeous, if you are building a boat for the reason of looking good, or for scale, and have the time or the money and care enough to make it look proper, jeez Iíll give it the time. But I donít have it,. But I must say that is the best looking steering wheel Iíve ever seen. Russel , is it 1/8th scale. Would he make another one ( now that he knows how to do it should be cheeper) Great to talk to you. Please PM me USA ,CO

dude

ps
I need a decal for the front end of my boat
something like
CB0727 93
I live in Colorado
In colo the first part is always CL but my sons name is Connor Bourque.

the next par is hs birthday july=07 the day is the 27th and the year he was born was 1993. is that a problem .

I also did a mod on the shipped Dumas wheel. Some brass rods, strips, solder and turned mahogany.

Hi Joe, don't know if I am reading you right, but the pic I posted is a full sized steering wheel and I did not pay the 300 for a 1/8th copy. I'm stuck with my Dumas one for now.

Woodybob and Oldtribe's both look fantastic, I really like the little "do-hicky" that hold the three rods together, fiddly work l bet.
I'd love it if they could do a build thread just on making a steering wheel, especially if It could be done without a lathe!

I can help you out with decals if you want, just LMK what you need I normally just work on a contra deal rather than cash, I'm making some decals in the next week or so if you get your artwork together let me know in a PM.

As a side note any gold or gold foil decals I produce have a flat colour not the swirly machined pattern that Pat's Vinyl supplier has.
(Did real boats have that finish originally or is the style with vinyl printing?)

If hand lettered... no swirlies, I'm sure. If vinyl (just like our boats!), anything is possible!

I made a steering wheel for my Hacker runabout. I did use a lathe to true up the wood rim; but you could chuck the shaft in a drill press or drill to do the same thing.

Nice work, Bob.

I'd like to pay you a visit some day when I'm in the Euclid area. I live in Cortland OH now.

Back in the early '50s, we used to cruise for girls in Euclid in my black '51 Mercury convertible. I'm too old for that now.....
