Have you tried with a similar sized 4 cell battery, that should get it up. That motor is more powerfull than mine, and I hauling a 4m bird up with not too much drama. link to that motor http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7708
with 12/8 folding prop. For my ventus I have lined up a much smaller motor,

I had to reverse the shaft, I hope it will fit without packing it out too much - but I still waiting for them to dispatch my order, so likely wont recieve my ventus for three + weeks, damn slow HK.

with this motor you dont need to add wood like the motor ok olmod.it fits perfectly.

fyi, I placed my order on 4/3/2011 and just this morning was "dispatched" and shipped 4 days later within the JIT window as indicated. I choose the least amount of shipping costs to New England, USA (Air Parcel (UNITED STATES) 2500g - 2999g $36.54). Hopefully it arrives within two weeks.

Yes, it would be nice to PM Anthony! I bet everyone also would like to do the same, he'd need a very large inbox...

Very nice building log. Helps alot since I am in the process of ordering the ventus.
But I have not read any real flight experience. Does anybody have maiden the plane to share some comments with us ?

The servos you selected may be to thick for the wings,you need a thickness ~10mm.

if you are careful with the dremel you can make deeper the servo space.iwas going to do the same that in the blizzard mpx(the servo can be seen in both sides),but is not necesary.

After reading many days in this tread, always waiting for news, I started to build my Ventus as soon I had received it. As I found the tail too thin and weak, I added a 6mm carbon tube from the end of the fuselage to the wings (sharpen one end of the carbon so that it looks like a saw and drill it with the aid of a akku-drill through the tail). To reinforce the wing tips I added a 3x1x 250mm carbon spar to the underside of the wing.
Weight of the plane 735gr + 2s Lipo 1400mAh: 90gr. Motor Turnigy 2830-1050 (which was on hand), Aeronaut cam carbon 11x8, 40mm spinner, 2s lipo 1400mah, all servos Turnigy 18ooA. I did not yet install a servo for the wheel, as I have no free channel on my TX (Hitec Eclipse with Assan-module). I cut the nose about 4mm, as the motor is a bit too short. CG is about at the servo cable channel, but should be probably further aft, will try the next days.
First flight impression: wings are far too "wobbly", for the second flight I installed a 35cm aluminium tube (10mm) to join the front wing spars, (I had to drill it into the wing with the same method as above), I also added a 6mm carbon tube to the aluminium wing joiner. 2. flight: much better now. With this motor/prop/lipo setup the Ventus climbs at an angle of about 20 degrees quite fast. After stopping the motor, it looses its heigth also fast. No slow curving around as with an "EasyGlider", it wants to be flown fast, it seems better for soaring than thermal gliding. Landing is slow and very easy when applying "crow"-mix. I hope this helps others when building a Ventus.

Ok, I was not sure if all was included in that 735g plus battery.

So at 825g total and 336 sq in, we have a wing loading of 12.5oz/sq ft or 38g/sq dm so the cube loading is 8oz/ cubic ft , That is no thermal soarer but it will fly, so removing the landing gear and servo is a good idea to save weight, it looked like it will be hefty, it is the lack of wing area that is worrisome.

Thanks for the input ,I also thought of beefing up the tail fin and boom but as I did not know the final cg position and left the cf out , did you get enough flight time to accertain wether the dropping of altitude was due to suddenly cutting the motor which often happens ,I always cut the motor slowly, You make no mention of your cg ? any glide tests before firing up?.

I think flight time was at least 10 minutes, but I did not stop it. Motor is on a switch, as I need the throttle stick for the flaps. It was not because of the sudden motor stops, but I just wanted to say that the "gliding angle" and the speed of the model brings it back to the earth much faster compared for example to an "EasyGlider". CG was where the servo cables are under the wing (about 38mm from leading edge) I did no glide test, just started with motor on and running some meters to give the model enough speed. Elevator trim set upwards a bit, CG seems to be still too far forward. Now it's time to sleep in Europe, good night.
