RG, I did draw up a set of plans just so I could layout the major components and get them some what in the right spot.
I think most ( mine anyway) scratch building has some sort of drawn plan to work from.

Al The meeting is at 6:30 at the ed building which is just beyond the Museum.
We usually go over to the Kennebec Tavern for dinner. We meet ther first about 5 o'clock.
Will bring the hulls and Tug.

Freehand talent

Even with plans / guidelines you seem to have "freehand talent", a disappearing skill ....
I am sure everyone remembers having to make what you needed yourself because it wasn't available...

This enabled us to learn to create.

Partially based on the fact that there are no hobby shops to pop into and buy what is needed, And I'm very particular about scale items. If it doesn't look real...I'll make my own.

Fun to make things, gives you license to design and fab.
I needed a boom winch for a Tug, dreamed one up from nuttin, the only "real" parts were the drums ...
The operating levers with ratchets are actually fire monitor parts !
( crate in background scratch also ) .. oh - and so is the funnel ...

Ahhhh, There is no boot top. The paints that you can see is as follows.
Superstructure: Floquil Soo line red
Hull topsides: Floquil Engine Black
Hull Bottom: Napa brand automotive hi-build red primer ( spray bomb)
Plimsol marks: Floquil reefer white
