Geobat- Foamie RC Flying Saucer- With Plans
Foamie GeoBat RC Flying Saucer
Hello, for the last few years I have worked with Mr. Jack Jones of Newnan Georgia and Mr. Randy Pollard on the GeoBat project. Jack Holds a patent on the general wing planform of the GeoBat and has dedicated many years to the refinement of the design. I came onboard when they needed a test pilot for a new 66” Diameter model with a Webra 1.20 engine. This was around 2005 I think. I was very impressed with the flight characteristics of this model and we still fly it to this day. It has had cameras and GPS’s strapped on….. Has been flown in extreme winds and heat. Had barbell weights added to the max. It was featured on the discovery channel and aired world wide. It has incredible slow speed performance! Yet max speed of 104 MPH without retractable landing gear. Some guy in California took the nitro set of plans and built a fan fold foamie using the general outline. Then a local guy and I set-out to make some foamie GeoBats. I refined the drawing on AutoCAD and many have been built as of this writing. (He later left the project) The California guys put lights on them and started claiming they invented the whole deal. They started selling RTF GeoBats for a grand each and not giving credit or royalties to the Inventor Jack Jones. But that’s a whole nother story. These 36” foamie GeoBats get so much attention wherever they are flown. They are extremely stable no matter what anyone tells you about a round airplane. The stability is incredible, so much that they tend to not want to roll very fast. With the modern LED lights available these days you can make an awesome night flyer with the GeoBat. Keeping the plane perfectly round is trying at times but it is really part of the appeal of the machine. We know everyone wants to be a designer and know you will make changes. Just please give credit where credit is due and have fun. Flying saucers are coming …. Believe it! ![]()

videos
This is still my favorite video GeoBat or otherwise!
Not the greatest quality video, but a Nice flight with an E-flight 450 machine. Pre-KFM airfoil
My first Hero HD video
The is the blue GeoBat in the build pics
Someone asked about the 4 aileron version.... this is the last GeoBat I built and the best flying. The roll rate is great with the 4 ailerons. They are set up mechanically with differential (More up than down) Also in this video you can see a CF reinforcement in the fuselage instead of the spruce sticks.
This video is of the fighterBat above with the EDF unit on top. The 4 aileron set-up is a pain but it's cool as crap and it makes it roll really well. On the Nitro and gas UAV's we use these for flaps, but the foamies fly so slow we have not yet tried them as flaps... maybe soon!
Here I am flying the Pink camera ship. We do this is my back yard just for fun My son Josh is flying the slow stick. Lloyd Snyder is on the slow stick with Streamers.
The first half of this video is the Nitro 22lb GeoBat featured in the Discovery Channel Video... The 2nd Half is my First Foamie GeoBat. It had elevons and a In-runner 370 with Gearbox. It was a great plane.
Note: More video's Have been added deeper in the thread! |
