It was a sweet Superbowl afternoon at Lilly's today. Started the day down in Carlsbad at Dave's Beach. No wind - bummer so I came home and went to Lilly Shapell. Dick, Tom, Fabio a Jeff were already there and Dick was smiling from ear to ear. His new M60 was a sweet little flyer.

Well here's a video of Tom and Dick flying their M60's and Jordan with his Gulp.

Superbowl Sunday at Lilly Shapell (3 min 3 sec)

More fun than a barrel full of monkeys!

Here is the Youtube Link. You can actually a bush just jumped up and grabbed Jordan's Gulp at the 2:05 mark. Silly bush.

My evening music job in Rolling Hills led me to Fermin today. I just left there having flown the Weasel for 40 minutes or so with some of the best slope pilots ever: Pelicans. They gave good lift guidance for my first time there. What a gas

Virgin flight at Dave's Beach

Had to go to San Diego this afternoon so on the way back I thought I would check out Dave's Beach. Never been there. It was about 4:00 PM and wind was dying, about 4 -5 MPH. Tossed out my little ASK21 and just out and back, not enough wind. Then I noticed the steeper cliffs north of Dave's so went to check it out. Was able to stay up if I hugged the coast directly above the ridge. Allright! Suddenly five minutes into flight turned away from the cliff to come back and wind died. Turned towards hill, a little up elevator and would have made it if cliff had been 6" shorter. Of course it had to be the sheer part of the cliff. Well the ASK21 isn't a virgin anymore. Actually it wasn't too bad landed on slope near bottom with only small crack in nose, and it was right near the path down to beach. A little cyano and we'll be back in business.

That is a very strong clif to fly...only on light days is it easy to land...wait till the summer Chuck for the prevailing winds of the west when they get over 20... You'll be able to fly the Toucana no problem there. Be sure to have a local explain the landing site there. And get help for sure.

Jeff, have you been out to Fermin and not told me?

Actually Chuck gave me a heads up he was coming out but unfortunately I wasn't going to be able to make it at the time he was going to be there. I did give him all the verbal(textual?) advice plus a few videos I had. I guess he's actually been there a few times before so he's got a good start.

I played hooky from work today anyways. It would have been cool if I wasn't actually sick though.
