Define rocket. The Speedo is a well known commodity and I'm sure most here can help you with any questions you have.

Happy New Year

Could not think of a better way to send off 2012 then to be flying with a good protion of my flying buddies there at Shappell. I want to start off by appologizing for hitting anyone these fast few months there, and hope to increase my count for 2013!
I guess my most dangerous aspect is I really am not trying to hit anyone... and so have to confess it scares me just as much... to unpredictable... unlike Jordan! the killer of the hill! (and Mr. Johnson... soon to be Jordans new adversary!
Be safe everyone, and look foreword to seeing you all up on the hill next year... AKA Tomorrow!

God Bless you you all!

rocket as in Estes.

What is the difference between the slope and thermal? Is their someone that carries them locally.

Hi Clipper,
if I were to add a rocket engine to a speedo, I would mount the engine on the belly, make the wing one piece and bolted on. The tail and wing incidence would probably need to be set at zero. Please take video if you decide to do this! I for one would like to see this.

Happy new year!!!

Looks like the wind is low today. I was hopin to get out for a few tosses.
Maybe knock Ed out of the sky.
But I guess I will just have to stay in the shop and see what the wind brings...

Hi Eric
The speedo wings are pretty fragile and I wonder if they could take the extra wing loading. Maybe some kind of Rc remote ignition on a sturdier glider that's already in flight might work better. Something with sheeted or molded wings, or maybe even epp wings. I have a speedo with a foam wing that would probably not blow apart. I want to see this so please let me know when you are going to do it

Can't recommend this.. We live in a fire prone area and I would not suggest this at many of our favorite sites.

With that said, Estes used to sell a glider with a rocket motor. Someone up at Kite Hill used to have one. You get maybe 2 seconds of motor burn. This is mostly speed that you can convert to some vertical height. It was mostly just novelty at the time, and not worth the price of the motors. You would be much better served with a brushless motor. You will get more speed and height with an electric motor. No to mention the motor ignitors were always annoying.

Eric, Wayne is right about the fire danger and if you check AMA rules, no rockets allowed on RC planes. There are obviously some danger issues here. If you want to go fast get a edf or a hotliner.

Dave, have you had any issues with your Here3 Black edition? I noted in the credits of one of the videos you made and posted here that you were using it. I was going to get one, but after reading reviews I'm having second thoughts and debating about getting the silver instead.

The build party is Thursday night at Waynes between 6 and 6:30. I have a long work table I can bring so you don't have to lug one in your car and yes Dick is barbecueing the hot dogs.
