Charybdis Monocopters

There are always monocopters at small and here are the two I saw. Hollis Fenn flew the yellow one and Dan Berry flew the red striped one.

There is a thread with Charybdis plans and Berkeley helicopter plans here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1434686

Steve Staples 10 High Flying Wing

Steve launched while Kevin piloted. Steve's 10 High was a 70's free flight design that he put a radio in and powers with a Cox TD .049 with a throttle sleve.

Klingberg Rocket Wing and Apprentice Air Launch

At SMALL 2010, Larry Askren sold me a built and not far from flying Klingberg Rocket Wing. Tom Blakeney had mounted a piggy back launcher on my Apprentice and Tom thought that rigging the Wing to launch off of the carrier rack on the Apprentice wouldn't be too hard. Last year we got one flight which turned itself in to a free flight and we didn't try it again until we got to SMALL 2011.

Paul Willenborg piloted the Apprentice, while Tom Blakeney flew the Rocket Wing, and I took the pictures.

There were four successful rocket boosted flights out of six. On one the igniter did not start the motor and the other the release servo was not hooked up.

Naturally, two weeks later Tom and I were talking about this and we both asked ourselves the question: Why didn't we put keychain cameras on both planes to get some really interesting video?

If anyone got any videos of these flights, please feel free to post them or a link to them in this thread.

Richard
