When bad things happen to other people EH....

Last July I noticed a small lump in my neck..silly lymph node..well it didn't go away..it got bigger..in November I saw my family doctor...didn't think anything of it ,,but wouldn't take a chance with it..ordered a CT..got it 2.5 weeks ago..since those results came back Ive been poked ,prodded,held out to light ,put under a scope,fed through a flux capacitor and descrambled by a warp drive.

It turns out I have Medullary thyroid cancer.with a mass in my lymph nodes.a most stubborn cancer and very smart. Its hereditary and I had absolutely no idea I was a carrier much less affected.and the worst survival rate of the thyroid cancers..apparently
.So tomorrow I'm under going a thyroidectomy and radical neck dissection..a five hr procedure that is just as it sounds..they take me apart.
My kids,my niece..(all under 10) and my brother are being investigated..if positive and cancer free the thyroid is usually removed as a precaution..if positive with cancer,they face similar circumstances as myself..

for my kids and niece I don't mind being a pin cushion..for any child it would be worth it..
So ..if I don't post anymore .
.I cashed in..dont think it will come to that but theres always that risk.

My biggest gripe with this whole situation..
an MRI of my shoulder two and a half years ago clearly showed a tumor on my thyroid accordding to my surgeon.,but hey ..the MRI was for my shoulder..why investigate another annomolly in a thyroid..
.Geeeeez... I guess I just pound salt..and get on with it..

All you can really do, is go for the best possible treatment that your doctor and YOU are happy with and hope for the best. I wish you the best of luck for your operation and that you do recover.

Hang in there buddy, a positive attitude is key. You'll get thru this.

No, he'd still be waiting to get the first MRI back, the one for his shoulder!

Thanks for the kind replies..
The most painful part ,,i hope.. is over.. im slit from behind my right ear to my left collar bone ,about 50-60 staples. most everything is numb to the touch..alot of nerve's were cut through todo a through job ..Doc figures about a year before most of the feeling comes back.

What a change of life, the day before yesterday I was only taking a tylenol...now I need one of those pill date box thingy's.
Everything said and done so far ..I still feel quite strong.

Damn, sad to see your news. As mentioned early, attitude is everything when it comes to beating the big C.
