Here's another gripe I have. On the Tv AARP is always advertising for insurance to"settle your debts and other final expenses so your family won't have to pay them for you".
Now granted it's a good idea to have something to pay your final debts but if you don't, and you die,NOBODY can make ANYBODY pay your debts. If those debts are in your name only they will just be written off and that's it. If the accounts are in your name and someone elses then that someone else will have to pay.
Saying that your family will have to pay your debts is just a scare tactic to get you to buy the insurance and that really torques my tubes. It's a flat out lie. Pete

Your right Pete and don't get me started on AARP and their nonprofit
status and politics.

I am turning 49, tomorrow (yes the third is my birthday) yet I have been receiving stuff from AARP for about five years! If the really want to help all those retired persons maybe they could quit wasting postage sending me this stuff!

There is some revenge if the junk mail has postage paid return envelopes. Send AARP the junk mail from the drug companies. Send the credit card companies the junk mail from the other credit card companies. This helps increase the work load of the USPS.

Good idea CG. It also costs the company that sends you the junk mail money to get it back. I do that every chance I get. Pete

I just throw the junk mail out, because I can't be bothered by wasting time doing anything else.

Not entirely true. In community property states, debts incurred during the marraige and cohabitation are community debts to the same extent that income earned during the marriage and cohabitation is community income. Community property is property purchased with community income, no matter whose name is on the title, so a widow or widower may be subject to some liability for community debts, regardless of who incurred it.

I've gotten something from aarp twice. both times i used their prepaid envelope to tell them what they could do with their offer and their politics. perhaps that's why i don't hear from them too much.

millertime, you have got to be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a new sheriff in town trying to make points. You've only been a member for 8 years I assume with the same name.

My username was approved in 2004, I don't see what the problem is now.
With a last name like Miller I've been called Millertime all my life.
