snap together quad airframe

My cousin runs a custom furniture shop. He's got a nice 3 axis CNC router. Recently he got hooked on quads. I bought him a 330X for his birthday a few weeks ago.

He's come up with a slick snap together frame for quads with up to 10" props. Weight is about a few grams heavier than a 330X frame. About 180gr.

No tools or glue required. It snaps together in less than a minute. Experienced pilots could optionally put a drop of glue in the joints but for beginners it's great. It'll just pop apart when you crash.

He may consider a G10 version of much thinner material next.

He just sent me this video.... he's Dutch, hence the accent.

Quadcopter airframe - interlocking design. (2 min 8 sec)

EDIT - THESE ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE HERE:

Is it posible to get the drawings of the frame?
Is it posible to get the CAD or other files of this frame as i can load them into a 3D machine and make one to myself only.

I have to say, very cool. I'm glad he stopped saying "pop" when he got to the motor mounts. One of the smartest ideas I've seen in a while.

He was telling me that he'd be happy to offer them as kits. I'd be happy to distribute them for him on our web shop.

Looks like $49.95 for a complete kit (wood version). Replacement parts just $6 for any part. I think we'll investigate a G10 version from some thinner material also.

He's coming over today and bringing one for me to "assemble". We will shoot some video of one flying also. They fly no different than any other frame.

I think in the next week or so we'll do a couple more tests... like intentional crashing to see how the system disassembles.

If we move forward with this and sell some I think we can have a batch of 50 or so done within two weeks.

Not unless he is gonna fly from Holland to AZ to dropoff a kit.

I am assuming he lives in AZ USA. Just read AZ's post above.

That guy is great, he has "Pop" way too much energy.

If your going to build and distribute these you might want to consider some slight variations, maybe:

A frame without the landing gear, the way that it is might get in the way for aerial photography. Most of the small camera's like the GoPro have about a 140 degree FOV.

Making a longer version for better stability that uses all the stock components from the 330X

And a version that can mount eight opposed motors, that seems to be a likely upgrade path for the 330X.

You should also offer a thinner lighter version.
