Control boards review?

Would like to hear from someone who has actually installed and used these boards on their rov. It seems many people have bought them but can't seem to find any feed back.
Thanks,

Duncan or anyone who is able ... I don't want to smoke my lovely boards and am ready to bench test a motor using a joystick but know nothing (except what I have read) re connecting a joystick to the transmitter board. Is this wiring what is required? (I hope the wiring requires less time than the time to create this image ... )

If the Happ joystick is the wrong type (I now have the feeling that it is - not a "12V input joystick"), would someone please advise me as which actual joystick to purchase for motor control using these boards. Remember I am new to all of this and need to learn ...

Bob

I think I found a link to a joystick potentiometer; 2 axis; spring to centre; ... but do not know if I want a 0-5KΩ or 0-10KΩ one. Any advice ...

On pag. 5 of the Rov1_Manual_Full_Set_V1 Gordon says "dive pot 10K" in order to control the vertical thruster.

I suppose there is no difference between potentiometer and joystick, but I'm not sure

I guess its specified with pot because then you can maintain a specific depth with a zero-buoyancy ROV. with a spring loaded joystick i guess this would be a bit more tricky.

could you post the link to the joystick? the board input is for 0-10kohm joystick as far i understand.
the only joysticks ive found in a reasonable price range are tiny joysticks similar to those on xbox360 controllers. i would like a joystick similar size to those on RC radios.
A thought i have is to slaughter an old 4ch rc radio and just use the chassis and sticks.

They looked VERY interesting!
i talked to an former colleague of mine that know alot in rc planes.
He said that most rc radios still have potmeter based sticks, but they use just a small area of the potmeter, like 2.5-7.5Kohm on a 0-10Kohm potmeter.
he said that this was the cheapest solution available: http://www.esky-heli.com/esky-4ch-us...ml?cPath=81_85
and if the potmeters isnt right, you still have a rc simulator ;-)
a similar simulator to this i can maybe get at my local shopping center for the same price as the hobbyking+shipping.
i'm driving there later today to check if they got one.
i'm also waiting for duncan(rov-asia.com) to reply me on questions regarding joysticks.

edit: wrong link

thank you for the tip. i bought a e-sky simulator yesterday, but havent had time to open and check it.

do you know if you can run power to the thruster esc's externaly? i'm trying to find small BL motors with high torque, but then they are often limited to 11volts

i guess the controll board and the power to the esc needs to have common ground to get the signal from controllboard to the esc when its power external from controll boards?

Antony and fluxno, I'll keep the "tip" handy in case the Mammoth pot-sticks do not work out - I went ahead and ordered them already.
