Hello, fellow scratch builders! It's nearing the dead of winter, an ideal time to begin a new build here in the NE. This one will center around a Gage VR1A kit which I recently put together. As the Drake tail stern is something I have never tried before, I thought it prudent to draw up some plans. So here we go, your basic box with one pointy end and one round one...

Hi, and thank you for commenting. Today I was able to rip the keel in half on the old Sears table saw. The next step was to measure and accurately cut out the 7 cardboard templates for the bulkheads; they're rectangles as only the tops matter for now. The elliptical bottom section gives a little definition to that area for now.

I'm also getting ready to order that engine. but I must ask.. why 2/3 midwest boilers? why not just one good sized boiler from macsteam or something?

hahaha yea really iv been tring to get a hold of just one for my launch and hes got 3

Watching for sure as I am still working on installing the Gage VR1A in my Borkum hull.
That is a great little engine for a great price.

bboarder, it may take all three to produce enough steam for this engine.. I'll try a board test using 2, and then 3 of the Midwest boilers and see where we are- I'm not expecting too much volume. I do have a Cheddar boiler from another boat that I might use in plan "B"...

Did you draw the boat plan yourself? The shape looks very nice.

Why aren't you getting a better/larger boiler?

I'm actually hoping to have enough left over in the paycheck to pick up a VR1 the holidays have played hell with my paychecks over the last few weeks. Free days off mess with the overtime
