I'd planned to reply with an update much sooner.... just been slammed at work.

We've got a "spec" class going up here in the NW. I'm planning to fly the Swist in this class ASAP.

I know its not the original intent.... to purposely make a "slow" pylon racer, but I gota tell.... the local participation shows that its a great way to get more folks involved.

The Swist will be big, easy to see, land slow - it could be the perfect model for this class.

more later...

Why would a plane with the freight capacity of a full house F5B ship be extra good for 100mph setups? No need for a large fuselage when you don't need it flying only 2S 1200mAh packs. Even a 400 sized racer would be lightly loaded with these moderate setups.

would a light setup like this even ballance(CG) a large plane like the Swist?

I think Daveīs idea is great, But flying a potential +220mph plane like the Swist(6s lipo), @100mph cant be fun at all..

But I can see the porpuse with using speed 400 planes at this speed.

yup - you could be right... I might end up having to just keep my Swist stock, full of electrons and a super fast motor. It wonít be all bad if I end up with a cool plane that goes ~200

On the other hand, if it works, it will great. Right now one of the biggest complaints by some of the older pilots is that they canít see the smaller models at speed (speed 400 size). No question the Sunracer, D99 / D2000 size planes are easier to see - and so far everyone likes them. The Swist is just a bit bigger, not much heavier. We may have to tweak the rules slightly to keep the speeds the same... donít know.

Itís worth a shot - plus itís just a cool plane!

I love my Swist. It's a blast to fly but the weather here is starting to get bad. Wont be flying it much now.

Wanting to try out another battery in it. Been using a TP 5s 2250 65c. Would like to fit a 2700 in there.

Terry,

Edit: I am using a TP 1800 mAh not a 2250..Not sure if the 2250 would fit.

There is not a lot of info on the Swist.
Dont have any pictures when I built mine. Here is what I have in mine.

Neu 1115 1y
Ice lite 100
Hyperion DS09's
Thunder power 5s 1800 mAh 65c pack.
Apc 4.74x4.75 and also run a 5x5 sometimes. 4.75 works real nice.
1733 watts
105 amps with the 5x5 prop.

I am using a carbon rod for the elevator. Works awesome. The rest is pretty simple. Also using heli ball links on the Ailerons. Zero flutter...

If using the ice lite you can flip up the two capacitors and this will give you a little extra room for the battery.

I think there may just be enough room for a 6s 1800 pack? Was looking at it tonight but it flys great now so I will leave it.

Also using a 250 mAh Life battery that sits under my receiver. This realy works great. It only uses less than 30 mAh per flight. No switch,no regulator.

I dont have anything to comapre it to..

Terry,

Terry,

Sounds like a solid setup! Getting rid of regulator and switches is a good thing!

Bruno .
BEC is only to be used on indoor models and parkflyers :-)

Pushing the ESC and main battery to the limits things might fail, which at 200mph is bad for both spectators and your wallet.

I do use BEC, but I connect it to the main battery in my Viper F5D on 5S - 1500W and in my holtiner rw2b on 6S - 6000W, plenty of flyings (more than 50) and no issues, safe config too!!! You don't mandatory needs a exclusive Rx pack, external BEC + main battery do the job for you.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think he was refering to the built-in BEC on the ESC.....

Yup! with internal BEC you have to be brave. Ofcause it works when it works, ut pushing the limits you are really gambling if useing it.

External BEC is way better, and you can always discuss if taping of the main battery is better then an external 2S that you might forget to recharge...
