Flutter prevention.

Here is a trick that I learned from the DS guys for repair of a damaged hinge line...it also helps with flutter as it will not reduce the throw but will dampen and stiffen the hinge line.

First the skeptic (me) tried it on several pieces of plastic and I found that I could not pull them apart after it had cured

I used 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive Sealant (black, it comes in white as well). Masked off the top of the hinge line (see pic) with 2 layers of tape. Then applied the adhesive and used a stiff piece of plastic to scrape it level the thickness of the tape about 1mm. I pulled the tape before it really started to cure then set the wing aside for 2 weeks YES it takes that long for the slow cure to set up

The final result was a repair that withstood 200+ with no flutter The hinge line moved freely was was considerably dampened.

This is not a subsitute for good "SLOP FREE" control arms, linkages and servos. It will however help those of us who are pushing the envelope with our airframes.

After what happened to VooDoo's plane I went back over mine and found some slop in the ailerons that was not acceptable...the bad thing is the slop is in the servos themselves HS125's...they will be replaced before going to 7S and pushing for 250.

I used that method on all my gliders up to 3.8m span and it never failed. Any silicone sealant will work. I didn't leave mine for a week though - 12hrs and its cured. The more silicone you use the stiffer it is.

Voodoo - I hope you took your Swist on holiday - its the perfect beach toy especially when you need to find a spot to put your towel!

Hi guys,

Some of us are actually interested in using the Swist for F5D, particulalry the Swist Pro as that is what it seems designed for. We are interested in how fast it goes, and how much power it takes to do this for around 60 seconds flat out.

The speeds we are interested in are those that can be achieved flying a level course with a straight of 180m and tight turns at each ends (well one slightly tighter than the other )

In order to do this, as another reader said, we need to average well over 150mph, whilst using no more than 1000 watt minutes.

If anybody is able to provide data and / or record speeds for this type of flying we woud be grateful. If only we could convert VooDoo to F5D !!

5.25x6.25 e apc

Hi guys,

If you have static data of "Watt & RPM" for APC E 5.25X6.25 please post or PM me.

I'm intersted in making a characterization graph for Watt RPM on this prop.
(as I did before for APC 4.75X4.75).

The more data points we have the better.
Excel will add best fit line to the data points.
Does not matter what the setup was.....as long as the data is accurate.
Finished results can be helpful to some folks in their various applications.


The graph will get posted here in 1-2 days.

Got some numbers for you regarding the 5.25x6.25.
Did some testing with my 1115/1Y on 3S, 4S and 4.5S (old fart 5S) just now:

3S: 732W and 25030 rpm
4S: 1540W and 30970 rpm
Old and saggy 5S: 1866W and 32292 rpm

Hi biskit,

Please don't go out of your way to do any extra testing.

If you do any testing later on, then you can check to see how accurate you think the chart/graph may be....any feedback will appreciated.


2nd order Poly trend line will cover all in between RPMs.

Over the weekend i went to a Giant Scale 3D event,and had the Swist with me just in case Come to find out they had no problem taking a break and let me have the place to myself for a couple minutes....and even had a Pro Vid Guy in a perch 2 stories up try to video it for the second time well,he tried hard,and spent the time to edit and post it guess it is hard to video unless the vid cam is bolted to my head....Look REAL CLOSE at the 1:17 mark of the vid ; ) How Low Can You Go !
