Oakalla Hawks Club 2011 DLG Contests

The Oakalla Hawks R/C Model Glider Club, based out of Deer Lake park in Burnaby, is planning to host some DLG contests in Mission this year. The number of contests and specific dates are TBD. We're trying to get an idea of how much interest there is and how many contests people would like to have.

It's exciting to see the growing local interest in this fantastic sport. It would be great to get some people from the Seattle area come up here as well. I hope to go to some of the Washington contests this year.

I'm in.

I'll let others know and ask them to express their interest.

My vote will be to have maybe 3 'larger' events, possibly 2-day events, at the Mission field, in April, June, and August.

Would it be possible to have some smaller, more informal, type 1-day contests at the Oakalla field? Maybe just a simple 2 task event, etc. My concern will be that we cannot use speakers at the Hawks' field (or could we?)

Re: What kind of ballast system are you going to install on the Osiris?

I think I'll use a wire and lead weight system similar to yours Thomas. My question is how heavy should I go? I would Imagine you'd want to be able to add/remove weight quick and easily.. So 20-40 grams maybe?? Any suggestions?

Re: Local contests.. I'm into competing and volenteering in the local events for sure, however, my two teenage kids keep me very busy from March to July so I'll try do what I can. I'm sure I can drag a few Cloverdale/Langley pilots out of the woodwork though!! :]

I have a 1 ounce, 1.5 ounce, and 2 ounce ballast 'stick' for my TS2. I don't plan on flying the TS in a contest though, for a contest ship I would do a couple more, maybe a 3oz and a 4 oz?

That sounds great David, will be nice to be fly in Abby and experience different fields/conditions/etc.

Hey Guys, I saw that Thomas mentioned that if there was anyone from edmonton setting up DLG contests to let him know. Just wondering if there are any of you out there flying DLG's in the Edmonton area (or surrounding areas) it would be great to get in touch and do some flying! Thanks.

Hey Ben, I can't give you their info, but I can point you to the yahoo group Edmonton RC Soaring Society (ERCSS). It has a list of some of their fliers.
Hope that helps!

I flew JUST before it started to snow! I got my Xplorer 4.0 wing on a 3.5 fuse and ..."experimented"

Nothing broke and no Xplorers were harmed...10 minute flights from a bungee woot! Then the clouds rolled in and I thought it was going to rain but was suprised to see it hail, then sleet then snow...

Now I am waiting for the snow to go so I can get the stobel out for a maiden flight - it came out to 9.2 oz
