Radio Shack NiMH's

What is the max amp load the RS NiMH's work well under? I am aware the new NiMH's from Panasonic and the like do far better under higher amp draws, but I assume the RS cells are the standard "cheap ones" that are more load limited?

The cells I'm looking at are the sub C 2200mah ones and the AA looking 1600mah type.

Thanls-

Ref RS 1600AA cells:

I am currently using them at 15-18 amps, but I think that is high for "good" performance. I think they work best at 10A or under. I am using them in A Zagi with both turbo 450 and Astro 020. They get VERY hot after they are done. They last about 5" giving average amp draw above 15.

I tried the 1420 Mah NiMh cells from there in a speed 400 twin, parallel. Bi Mistake!
Tried them on a 400 DD,but were a tad heavy

I have found with experience, that if you run 7 nicads, run 8 NiMh cells. They seem to have a lot higher internal resistance, thus, less output.
So, now I add 1 cell, and they work better.

As for the heat....Kieth Shaw and I spoke about this.He said that the cells heat up because they are exothermic, whre nicads are endothermic,,,,,

I have read that NiMH'ds are damaged by deep discharge... I love my RS NiMH packs, but I try and limit time to 10min. WOT.. this, on a 7.2V speed 400 turning a 9x6 prop on the skyscooter... yep, they are hot after 10min... dang hot

Thanks for the info guys.

Another question - the RS 1600mah batteries that look like AA's - how much do they weigh? ie. what Nicad would they be closest to in weight?

Thanks again-

Ed

What is the availibility of these packs? I visited my local RS and all they had were the 1250 NiMh packs, no 1600's. The clerk said I should check back at Christmas, when they stock for gifts.

I try to not charge mine above 1.6 but if I am in a rush I might go 2.0. my packs have over 70 cycles and still going strong.

Cheers,
Jim

I have the RS 3200... or maybe it's a 3300 NiMH, and it's my best battery. It lasts a good while. WAY longer than the RS 1600 I think that came w/ the overnight charger. I also have the RS rapid charger, and it works great. I'm thinking of buying a 4 or 5,000 NiMH though.

I just noticed that, I was reading those posts, and wondering why the amperage those guys were talking about was so low, then read your post, and glanced back at the dates, I just bought some for a transmitter, and I think thier somewhere in the 2500 MAh range, but don't remember for sure.
