For those who want to take their Parkzone, Hyperion, FMS and similar sized warbirds to the next level in scale detail, can now have their 3d printed cockpit kits, pilots and detail parts. These parts are hollow, to keep them light. I've modeled these parts in Softimage XSI and Zbrush for my own planes. But as technology allows, I was able to make them available for anyone else wanting the same models. The Dutch 3d printing company Shapeways is the company manufacturing these models. The models come directly from Shapeways and I have nothing to do with them, other than modeling the original computer models (and receiving a very small markup from each sold model). The quality is excellent and the material is relatively light, yet sturdy - perfect for RC use.

HOW TO ORDER: The parts and pilots can be ordered from here. All Shapeways prices include UPS shipping and the VAT will be removed for non-EU members. As they are printed on demand, they are never "out of stock", but it will take Shapeways a few days to manufacture and ship them.

PAINTING THE MODELS: I've discussed how to paint these parts on another thread. The painted example is made for my Hyperion P-51D and it's about 20% bigger than PZ version and about the same amount smaller than the FMS. The unpainted pictures are from the PZ P-51D version.

The PZ pilot is now also available as a separate piece. It's about appropriate size for most PZ warbirds. Only $20, including shipping.

I've just added a new pilot option to my selection, as well as a new cockpit kit for the Parkzone Ultra-Micro series sized warbirds. The new character is a portrait of the Belushi's "Wild Bill Kelso" character, from the movie 1941. Although for his helmet I've modelled the later version used on the pacific theater. It is currently available in three sizes, one for Hyperion 25e Mustang series size, one for Parkzone series warbirds and one for Parkzone Ultra-Micro series.

I've modelled them with Softimage XSI and sculpted the organic shapes (faces, cloths) with Zbrush. Both I use at my work in daily basis. (But RC planes and these kits are just my hobby.) I hope the micro pilots turn out good, as I've done some little improving on those after these test prints. I've also ordered new test prints of all of the parts, in both materials I've made available.

Just a quick update. My new updates to micro models seem to have failed ("too thin parts") in shapeways and I've had to submit new versions. I'll make them available as soon as I'll get them successfully printed.

looks great. too bad shapeways don't have a clear material so that you could get the canopy for the micro p51 made up
