Maybe this should be a separate post but what about wet dry decals. The one you print out on a printer then put some clear laquer on top of it and you transfer it to the wing?

Lacquer may well disolve foam! It depends on the solvent... Lacquer is a solvent evaporation finish.

The decal, if it worked, would act as a surface barrier. Much like paint. In the case of delamination in that area, it would require pinholes to get epoxy or CA through. This is not a problem with paper-based graphics put in a layup.

In the case of our wings, the decal could likely still get moisture exposure from the underside during rain. That could loosen it from the bottom even if the top was sealed. Whether that would be possible would depend on whether or not the clear lacquer dissolved the decal turning it into paint.

Ok. What if you use wet dry after the wing is complete? How is that going to hurt?

Do a test section and see if it works.

Is your wing painted? The solvent in the lacquer clearcoat may dissolve or strip or otherwise damage the paint. Or the foam. Depends on the solvent, paint, and foam. It may also damage the epoxy, depending on the solvent and to some extent on the time from cure and post-cure processes. I try to avoid using solvents on wings.

Without the clearcoat, see if it is durable enough and will withstand the elements.

Paper transfers are inherantly soft and nonpermanent, the kind needing pressure to apply especially! Waterslide decals are glue backed with water as the softening agent! Tissue is the method of choice next to paint ! If you have not tried tissue give it a go, it is a no brainer! Water resistent ink helps !

hi,

i used a diffrent lay-up on my last vertical , (see picture)

i'm very pleased with the result , weight is 6.9 gram what comes pretty close to my other ones.

very strong especially on the LE.
gonna try the same for the horizontal too.

just wen't out for a few throws with the cg at 72mm (wich i tought was to far far upfront) but i really like how she behaves , i still detect thermal's very well , and the acceleration i get when switching to speed mode is phenominal , also when hitting strong downwind it doesn't hang's on it's tail to fall down like a brick .

i think when there is some wind or turbulence i ca,n really benefit from a more upfront cg.

Hi Kristof,

Can you tell us what you have used for a layup on this vertical?

The closest you can come to that is to look for the "Rate this thread" button on your browser. On IE is it near the top of the page on the right.
