I have been wondering, howcome people not using the Disser from EMC.

Is it weight or what ??
jens,

some colored tail's will show up soon

i have used the emc disser before but it's difficult to handlle , it's (almost) impossible to have the disser nice and straigt and the glas itself is very open (few thread count and very thin) .

i use 50gr glas wich is much finer and result's in a better surface.

hi Kristof,

can you post more pictures about your tail (elevador linkage and rudder fixation on the boom?) please??

wich are the bigger servos we can put in the pod? DS09?
i'm thinking about the stuff i need to buy. and as i will go for a 2S360 lipo, i will probably need weight in the noise. so, maybe using a strong and precise servo, can be usefull instead of dead weight...

regards

hi, ds09 are hard to fit , it is possible tough..

i use futaba s3154's for elevator and rudder , same dimensions as the jr 285's

rudder can be mounted on the side , there's a small piece of reinforcement to be glued into the rudder as you can see on the picture , horizontal mounted as usual, control horn can go in the back of the pylon.

hi,

feel free to ask...

i don't use any clothing , just one drip of ca and glue it on the side , then check if it's perpendicular to the horizontal and then i use "ca filler" to make a blend between fuselage and vertical , then soak with thin ca and ready ...

all part's are sanded were glued.

i'll post pictures tommorow

Hello, Kristof

Ive just started making my own tail surfaces and have a problem: they are twisted. The first set of surfaces was flat, but a bit heavy Second time after closing the mold I warmed them up. Maybe the problem is here? The mold is aluminium, solid and flat. I hope that Your experiense can help me

i think temperature cannot be the problem , i don't now wich resin system you're using but i use a cold curing system wich means i cures at room temperature.

after 24h of ambient temperature cure i elevate temperature to 50 to make the parts harder but most important more temprature resist , otherwise they can get soft and deform when exposed to heat(sun for instance)

most likely the orientation of the fibers have caused the problem , also you need make sure you have the same amount of resin evrywhere, if you have more resin on top then bottom it can cause warp also but i bet you need to make sure the fibers are as close to 45 on top as well as on bottom.

hope this helps!

hi,

today i got lucky, while i wen't up in several strong thermals and got off far downwind(strong wind today ) i came in to land and at 2 meter height my elevator steering wire snapped, causing a stall and nose first on the ground.

luckely no damage , pwiifw..

the problem was the wire got cut by the elevator control horn , anyone had this problem before?

so i used a metal rod bended 180 on both sides to prevent this from happening again(see picture)

hi,

this weekend our third national contest of the year took place , the weather forcast was not very promising but it turned out better then excpected.

little rain in the morning and cloudy grey day in the end the sun came peeking thru.

even in the rainy grey morning some of us managed to get some 3+minute flight's.

later on the day there were some nice thermals .

i came in second with a 98%score, my personal best .

victory wen't to another helios (damned , should kept this design for myself)

next week our 4th contest and the week after the german open , i'm ready!

Glad to hear the Helios are holding strong over the pond! I saw your post earlier where the string broke from the horn. I had heard of this before on Stobels and actually back in June put some really small metal fishing snaps on the end of my strings to prevent that from happening. I meant to respond sooner about doing that lol. I just took my two out this weekend for the first time in a good while. The conditions were very similar to the last contest I flew in York, SC. I forgot just how well these things handle nasty air. The wind was strong, turbulence was high, and some record book sink almost made a tree eat #1 plane, but I made it through a gap that was quite literally "the skin of my teeth". But still all I could do was smile after both outings from all the fun I was having making some really nasty rides work. I was having a blast with 40g of ballast!
