Helios w. built in autopilot?

Hi all.

After reading Kyles story I was thinking "Naaa, can that really be true?"

and the answer is ... Yes it is. Did it too, today for 18m 48s.

The Helios gets more and more impressive after each flight, had an excellent day at the field. Very strong thermals, calm winds.

I started the day flying my Mistral 2. Longest flight 8 min. After my first Helios flying experience I think the Mistral are flying like a shoe with wings. It can fly, but you have to control it the whole time.

After flying the Mistral for a hour, I switched to the Helios, only my 2. time flying it. Man this bird don't lie. On the first throw, going upwind the left wing popped up. Turned left and bang, smack in the middle of a large thermal. I let go of the controls and she just went up and up and up, staying beautifully in the thermal all on her own. This was the flight that got me 18m 48s. I was way out of my normal comfort zone, but the Helios somehow gives med the confidence to push my limits.

After that experience, I could repeat the process again and again, shortening the flights. It feels like it has an built in autopilot when in thermals.

I'm in love with this bird.
Thank you Kristof for this superior designed plane.

Cheers
Allan T. Olsen

PS: Helios #2 ordered.

Wow, you and me both! I know these are the highest launching planes I have ever owned, but I'm nowhere near those numbers.

wen't out for some throws and forced myself to launch higher but it didn't worked

after my secret gyro sensored thermal device i need to come up with some kind of noiseless ducted fan system , maybe the lipo can serve as ballast

Hi guys.

How do you measure the height of your launches?
What equipment do I need?

Hi Kristof.

Did the pilot fly the Helios at the competition?
If no, why not?

you need an altimeter or gps module .

the ram3 is a good altimeter:

allan,

i think it didn't flew much in sweden , the highest ranked belgian pilot flew a few rounds with it (and got high scores) but he said he didn't had enough sticktime on it yet .

he used his tw2 wich have been his comp model for the last 2 year's.

Thank you Kristof.

Makes sense to use the one that you are comfortable with.

Cheers

helios record launch height

hi,

it appears there was a typo in the text message i got from the belgian pilot who lend his helios to a japanese guy .

instead of 67.6 meter it was 76.6 meter , that's 251 feet!
