Thanks for bringing up the multi blade prop.

What I was trying to say is that the low pitch on top combined with a high pitch right below should give better results, or does this only work with counter rotating setups?

It is Christmas morning, 3:27 am, and I'm here working. If you are having fun, does it still count as work? Anyway, here is a pic of the lower pivot rig. That box will accept the servo if I use one. It is made of six pieces; 1 pair of 1" thick milled pieces, 1 pair of 1" thick pieces, a 1/2" thick brace, and a 2" thick milled retainer.

I also have a potential sponsor. I can't wait to get back so that I can pursue the others I have in mind.

I guess it might make sense to have different pitches. The other thing is the pointy end of the props is not so good for placing in a duct, as it leaves more space for air to leak past. You could cut the ends off the prop to make it flat so it seals up against the duct. Shouldn't be too hard to do. Once you mount the props on the motor, all you need to do it spin it up and hold a sanding block against the edge and sand until you get the diameter that you want.

Here is the complete steering assembly. These parts will hopefully be machine cut and milled. If not than this entire setup is a bust. Let's not think about the bad though.

I just added a new thread concerning lipo handling.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1361064

I have to move all the pictures to the first post of this thread sooner or later.

It would be complete &$ if I couldn't get this done before the end of March.

I just made an adjustable pitch, five rotor lift fan. The pitch is manually adjusted, which is easy with a form and flat surface.

Take a look at the pics. It is pretty self explanatory.

What are your plans for how you will make the lift rotor?

There are seven pieces; five rotor blades and two hub sections. The hubs are identical. It works by holding the rotors firmly together. The holding together will be done by 1/8" bolts - five around the perimeter and five closer to the center. The motor itself is responsible for holding onto the hub.

Some specs:
- hub dia. 6"
- blade count 6
- hub thickness 1 1/4"
- bolt holes 10
- bolt hole diameter 1/8"
- rotor dia. 18"

The custom lift rotor is wishful thinking at this point, but could be made like the rest of the balsa parts - cnc machining. The blade itself would require more than the average machine. So far I found one company that mills plastics and metals. I am getting quotes on the blades for various materials, but I doubt it will happen. I'm still looking for a company that works with balsa. I'll just ask if the next option will cut balsa.
