Walkera 4F180 - 4 blade FP helicopter

It was Rafa's CB100 who first spotted this on Walkera's website

I suspect that those with a V200D01 or CB180Z can easily upgrade into this by just changing the head and the tail. I will definitely consider doing this for my V200D01.

However, the motor for the 4F180 is 4000kv compared to 3800kv for the V200D01. I wonder whether the 3800kv motor will be enough to drive the 4 bladed head? Also, I wonder if can use the cheaper blades for the V200D01 or the Trex 250 instead as the blades will not be cheap?

Does a 4 blade setup offer advantages over 3 blade?

I suspect that there will a much greater chance of the tail blades running into each other at start up and thus stripping the servo or other damage. This had been reported by DK for the 3 blade tail of the 4F200

Any advantages would probably be minimal. I suspect that most buyers would already be experienced modellers who are not interested in using it as an everyday trainer. They would be much more interested in it for its appearance and novelty value. It would also also be a great conversation piece at the local airfield. I don't think it will be flown that much because for a start, replacement blades will be quite expensive, easily costing over $30 to replace.

More torque, thus greater resistance to changes in plane. But, not a lot more than 3 blades. It might be easier to adjust pitch when you have opposing blades.

I'd like to buy the head, anyway, and put it on my 250. Now, let's see if we can find out what the main shaft diameter is...

Strange - FP but with what looks very like a FBL CP head. I'm guessing that if you took off the blue rocker which is what presumably keeps the blades' pitch in sync, added a servo (and a 6ch RX) along with CP blades it would be one?

Exactly what is the advantage of FP on such a heli? The usual points about simplicity of the head seem not to apply.

I think so. Both Rafa and I have seen the main gear pin of our CP 4F200 shattered into 3 pieces because of high torgue. My two bladed FP V200D01 is not faring that much better either. On two occassions, the bottom part of the main gear with the pin just disintegrated in mid air, resulting in crashes.

Judging by my experience with the 4F200 and V200D01, anyone who intend to so some tough flying with the 4F180 with get a nasty surprise soon.
