Fort Wayne Electri-Fly - 5th Annual

Our annual Electri-Fly will be held on August 9th, 2003 at the Fort Wayne Flying Circuits field in New Haven, IN (Just outside of Fort Wayne).

We will run the 'fly for fun' event from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. We schedule a couple of quasi-organized events such as Limbo All-up-Last-Down, and sometimes even a combat event.

A light lunch menu will be available in our club kitchen. This year our uncommonly large field sports an even LARGER increase in flying area.

As we don't have a webmaster anymore, I don't have a website for this event. However, if you're interested and need more information please contact me at pat-ingrid-mattes@juno.com

Hi, Pat! I'm glad to know about the event! Are pretty much beginners accepted and allowed to participate? I'm having lots of fun right now with my second-hand T-52, and I don't think I'd embarrass myself TOO much by splatting it into someone's car or van (or the ground but I'm no whiz pilot, and that's for sure! Hi Pat,

I'm planning to make it, at this point.

I'll be flying my new Sea Fury, as well as my "old" V1 and Super Chipmunk, the ancient Tempest Mk II (first flew last year...), and my older still Tempest Mk V.

No Li Poly's (yet...), but still lots of fun. V1 might be a good candidate for a 2s 2p pack.

Sea Fury is 42" span, on 12 CP 1300/1700's and a Phasor 30-3. Super Chipmunk is 45" span, ROG, and uses 10 1700CP's to run its AXI 2820-10. Tempest Mk II is re-motored with a Phasor 30-3, running on 10 CP 2400's, the old Mk V still runs its sweet Astro 035G on 10 CP 1300's, and the V1 runs a cobalt s400 on 8 500 AR's. 400W, 300W, 325W, 200W, and 130W output power, respectively.

It's a lot of fun "intercepting" the V1 with the fighters!

Glen, I wouldn't worry about experience level. As I get more experience, I don't crash less, I just crash harder!

E-Fly

Hi Pat,
I'm planning to attend again this year. As usual I'll bring some soaring stuff and will also bring some LoLo recorder charts so you can see how this has added a new dimension to my flying. I might even be able to rig up the laptop and show just how the recorder works. Uff-Da Pete

Pat, I may be able to make it up from Portland on Saturday, and if I do I'll try to bring another flyer or two with me. Do you have any directions to help find the field? Thanks for any info! Glen Priest in Portland

I realize that there are several other electric events around the Midwest tommorrow.

I don't believe that any of the flying sites are as nice as the Ft. Wayne site.

' Hope to see you there tommorrow.

A GREAT event today, and a boat-load of fun!! Great guys to talk with and some marvelous planes and flying demonstrations.
Dave Grife of Coldwater, MI will probably be too modest to mention his stunningly beautiful scratch-built Hacker/36 AMP Li-Poly screamers, but the Howard Ike, the WW I biplane (sorry, don't know iif it was a Fokker, Jenny or Spad, etc) were AWESOME!! My favorite was the Elite Models ARF Diablotin ARF, and the sound and performance of THAT thing were not to be believed!!! And Jeez, I FORGOT a fabulous 1930's era low-wing monoplane with an incredible finish and stunning flight; maybe THAT was my favorite!!
A GREAT event, Pat, and a GREAT demo with fabulous planes, Dave!!! Glen Priest

Heck fire, now that I think of it a moment, those things were probably pulling maybe 70 or 80 amps with around 7800 mah capacity. Unreal!

Good Grief, did you drive all the way up there and then not find the field? Very, very sorry to hear that. My friend and I had some trouble finding it, also, and we had directions from Pat!
I'm sure someone here more familiar with the area will respond, but as we came up from the south on US 27, we took the east 469 Bypass around to US 30 and then more or less overshot the landing! I think what would work is to take "Dawkins Road" north off of US 30 (unbelieveably, it is a gravel road !!) one mile north, then right (east) a mile or ywo and the park will come up on the left. Maybe I can forward Pat's directions to you, and again, sorry you wasted your day. Glen Priest
