I am a real FPVer now ! I received this week a 900 mhz FPV system. After trying it static, I wanted to try it on a vehicle since my glider is not ready (waiting for brushless power system and must build pusher motor pod to have clear unobstructed view in front of the camera).

So I removed the body of my daughter's mini mauler and made a lite ply platform and mast to mount the camera, VTx and battery. I plugged it on the tv and drove around the basement going from the living room to the workshop by a small ramp. Works great and is way cool ! I am not sure the mast is necessary but I wanted to have the video transmitter higher than the RC antenna. The battery (2200 mAh) is too big and heavy for the suspension but I am waiting some 800 mAh.

No problem with the daughter. She doesn't play much with it (I tried, oh did I tried to interest her in R/C). But she had fun trowing stuffed animals and barbie on my route. I'll make a vid !

To lower the center of gravity, I relocated the camera from the mast to the platform. I relocated the mast to the rear to distance it from the RC Antenna. I can use the plate where was the camera to install a keychain cam to record.

Interestingly, I get better range when I attach the Rc antenna to the bumper. It shortens it but I don't get blind spot in RC range where the vehicle stops. I drive from the basement in front of the tv and can go anywhere in the house ! real fun !

900 mHz Vtx and Rx, camera is KX-181 HQ, all from NG Hobbies in Canada.

I use the standard smallish antenna that came with the Rx Tx. Also got a patch but the didn't try it yet.

I installed the keychain on the mini mauler to record my run, but the low light condition of indoor running didn't make a great video. On the FPV camera all is very clear and bright, even in the corners, but on the keychain it is too dark to make it worth using in the house unless a lot of light is used.
