Twin motor Raptor FPV mod

Working on my 2nd Raptor and decided to ditch the single motor mounted on the tower (got tired of the downward pitch on launch) and installed 2 x 1100 kv outrunners. What an improvement!

2 x Turnigy 1100 kv 300w outrunners w/2 x Master Airscrew 8" counter rotating 3 blade props (8x6) W/3 cell battery the combination draws less than 350w and a total of 34 amps while producing 4 lbs 12 ounces thrust. All up weight with battery is 3 lbs 6 oz.
Using 2 x 20amp ESC's.

I liked my Last plane so much I decided to make a few spares...

These all include a slight change to give a little more stability and slow the wing down for longer more relaxing flight.

Root Chord: 14"
Tip Chord: 7.5"
Wingspan: 52"
Sweep Distance 12.5"
Thickness: 1.8"

8'x4'x2" sheet at lowes = $25
Cut into 5 18" sections (With a little extra) Thats $5 a wing! plus a $3 carbon spar and Gorilla Glue.

Just a little sanding, finish work, and electronics... they will be ready to go!
Each is getting a different motor for testing, 1 is getting a 3536 AeroDrive 1350kv 10x4.7 and 10x6 folding prop, 1 is getting a Generic 200W 1100kv 8x3.7 and 8x6 prop, 1 is getting a 1200kv Dynam 8x3.7 and 8x4 prop. We will see how it goes! Oh and the last gets a 2200kv 350 watt Turnigy with a 6x4 prop (Same as the prototype setup...)

i dug out my old easystar, gave it ailerons (and a bigger horizontal and vertical stabiliser) and made the motor mount higher so i can use a bigger (9x5) prop on a 650 watt motor. works well, just trying to get the thrust angle right (atm, at WOT it will not turn left, full left is barely enough to keep it straight at WOT. gonna try a tx mix, more throttle=more left. anyone got any ideas?

I have a wing that needed counter weight due to torque. I added a few grams to the wingtip, then mixed my control surfaces to compensate when the motor was off. Worked good, but took quite a bit of work.

thanks, i'll try that. so, weight on the left wingtip, then a mix to have it go right at no throttle? only problem i can see is that it would make inverted flight impossible.

Yes, weighting the wing will make inverted a nightmare. you could manually trim the control surface with added trim to roll counter of the throttle...

Updates to the dollar tree foamboard plane that I posted a few weeks back:
- Upgraded from 150W motor to 450W motor
- Using 2x 3s2200mAh packs for power now

Obviously it's a lot heavier but still handles the weight well. With the improved power (close to 1:1 thrust/weight) I can hand launch it easily, no more needing someone else to do a running launch. Flight times have varied, the first few flights were 17 minutes, the one in the video below was only 11 minutes since I was at full throttle a lot. It cruises at 20mph at around 5A, so I could probably get close to a 30 minute flight if I went for duration. Wide open is 45A and 55mph.

I need to find somewhere more interesting to fly, flat desert isn't very exciting. It was windy, so not the smoothest video, but I posted it anyway:

i did that, but the ailerons aren't enough to make it able to turn left.

hmmm... the only other option is finding a better motor pitch, or going to a higher KV with smaller prop...

i think i will just try a combination of weighting and aileron trim, i can't really afford a new motor right now.

What is your amp use at level flight? Say safely above stall speed.
