Unimax Tanks at Horizon Hobbies

Hi all. Horizon Hobby is now advertising a number of Unimax Toys Inc/panache Place tanks in 1/24 scale. The tanks are advertised as "Digital-Proportional speed and control. Independent tank track movement." The tanks come with a practice target. Does anyone have any experience with these tanks? I am looking at these or a HL 1/16 scale tank as a starter. Horizon Hobby does have a reputation for good customer service. The HL tanks that I have been looking at are all from affiliated companies on Amazon. Thanks for any advice that anyone can give.

I would suggest the HL 1/16th scale simply because the available upgrades and replacement parts. Thats what makes the differance between "hobby grade" or "toy grade". The "hobby grade" can be repaired. Phil aka Blitzkrieg65 at RCTankwars.com is great to deal with.

HL tank

Thanks for your reply. Would you advise getting the upgraded model with metal gears and tracks. I don't know if I will end up getting into this in a big way, but I want something as reliable as possible.

I would get the Asiatam gearboxes and tensioner setup for the HL Tiger I and only buy the metal tracks if you plan to upgrade the motors.

I have a friend who bought a HL Panzer III with the metal gears from Matomart and he hasn't really had any issues with it.

I use them they are great little tanks but if you want something to beat on out side go for a 1/16 scale.

Thanks for replies

Thanks for the replies. I have been in contact with Phil at RC Tank Wars and am about to order a tank. I had planned on outside use from the beginning since I have 2 Mark I Papillon tank disroyers roaming the house. I plan on getting the IR modification for the tank in the future and I am wondering if anyone makes a "battle beam target" for the Tamera style systems. I may take another look at the Unimax tanks next year as a way to learn to shoot at targets before going to any real "tank wars". Will have to put the boys in a prisoner of war camp while practicing. Hope everyone has a great holiday season. jot

The nice part i like about the 1/24th is you can have more terrain in a smaller space.

Are there replacement/upgrade parts available for those?
