I have an idea for an unofficial, no prizes video challenge contest that all of us can be a part of. There's no cut-off time, no exclusions, and hopefully a whole lot of fun.

Here's the pitch:

Users / Competitors will embed YouTube clips of their Micro-Flyer to this thread, showing how they have completed the most recent "Challenge". The first person to embed their video wins, and gets to choose the next challenge!

Everyone wins, because the whole point of the contest is to have fun flying your Micro-Flyer.

Here are some guidelines:

Videos should show the user's own micro R/C model completing the challenge.

Videos should be filmed within the time frame of the challenge (no old videos).

There are no restrictions on the model used, but micro-flyers are suggested to keep the thread relevent to this forum.

Challenges should be simple, fun, creative, and interesting to watch, but not illegal or harmful to innocent persons or property.

Each challenge lasts for as long as it takes for the winning video to be posted, but no more than 48 hours (to keep the thread fresh).

Each winner will be responsible for suggesting the next challege.

Here are some suggestions for potential challenges:


Show a video of your micro-flyer looping inside a small room, but not in a gym.

Show a video of your micro-flyer doing a touch and go off the roof of your car.

Show a video of your micro-flyer flying under a table (folding/picnic/etc).

Show a video of your micro-flyer flying in front of your Local Hobby Shop.

Get the idea?

the point is to do it and post it. then you get to dictate the next challenge. get it yet? ide participate but have no vid cam. phone just sucks and can never d/l to computer. its a pos. waiting for iphone for verizon. but lets see who can post first.

drakonis is right. It's not that the challenge has to be challenging, it's the challenge of completing the challenge and posting your vid before somebody else! The whole point is to go out and have fun with your micro-flyer.

The vids don't have to be good, they just have to show you completed the challenge!

First person to post a vid of flying their micro under a street light at night gets to pick the next challenge. Let's get some vids up here!

I posted a teaser vid in the first post. This is what this idea is all about. Impromptu fun with you R/C micro flyer plane. Now somebody go fly under a street light (preferrably at night!)

Could also have a 'tag' type contest where the goal is to capture an aerial pic of something, next guy to get the pic then places the next 'tag', similar to what the dual-sport/adventure-rider types do.

Can we use components from Micro RTF flyers in a self build ?
Otherwise, I have a Havoc heli and erm, the rest is bits and parts in other builds.

If noone beats me to it (like anyone in the UK I guess) i'll have a webcam focused on the street light outside later
For such a simple task, actually seeing what's going on may be challenging in itself !

I don't think we should limit participation to RTF or anything else. All micro models should be welcome! The sun is setting here on the East Coast of the US. I hope to see some videos tonight!

interesting topic... I ALWAYS fly under street lights but I don't think a video is possible for "me". Even though our cam is OK but I can't take a vid for some "reasons"

FAIL! here too (as they say on YouTube).
In fact, not withstanding the awful quality of my camera in broad daylight, there was no chance with streetlight illumination.
The webcam could pick out a dot of light, but no way you'd see anything like a Havoc heli doing anything.
And, to top it all, I fell with the flu or something last night and was in bed by 9pm !

See, it's not quite the simplest competition starter !

Only two hours to go, and the first challenge might go unanswered...

I just came back in from trying it myself. The winds are too stong, my camera batteries won't hold a charge, and my toddler won't stand in one spot long enough for my wife to film me flying under a street light.

Can somebody pull this off in the next two hours?

I don't think it's necessarily fair that the challenger gets to post the response video, but since nobody else was able to complete it...

It's really hard to see the plane. All you see are flashes of white as it goes past the street light. Watch for the loops, and listen as I hit the pole!

Next challenge:

Show a video of your micro flyer flying UNDER something. Table, ribbon, tree, etc. Like a limbo.
