Suggestions for charging 6-cell 5000mAh Lipos?

Having used a cheap Thunder AC-6 for everything up to this point, it's time to upgrade... I've used the AC-6 with all my smaller packs, 2 and 3 cell 700-2200mAh stuff and never had any issues, it's been a great charger so far!

I recently built an electric Four Star 120 and need a bigger charger to handle it's battery. I seriously doubt I'll ever go any larger than it, so I don't need a lot of room to expand beyond this.

I need to charge a 6-cell 22.2V 5000mAh pack. A rate of 1C is fine, I never charge more than that anyway. Balancing is a must, it's very rare that I'll do a regular charge and not balance. I like to keep my packs balanced... I need to power from A/C, can be built in or an external power supply.

For the charger/supply together, I'd like to stay around $150 or less if possible. Can it be done?

Take a look at the iChargers. If you can really stick with one battery at a time at 1C, then even their low end chargers will do.

This is an 80 watt charger. He needs at least 126 watts to do 1C.

Sorry you're right... wasn't thinking about the voltage since I use my 1010C for 6S.

The Hyperion EOS 0720i is a nice charger but it's $180. There are some decent ichargers, never tried one but have a couple of friends who have and like them. Too bad hobbyking is always backordered on them...

Progressive RC usually has them in stock.

Some of the US prices are higher HK's but the shipping may be lower and it's much quicker.

It looks like that one has enough watts to do about half a C or less.

Wow, lots of good info! Thanks!

I hadn't looked into the iChargers much, but I will for sure.

What about a Venom Pro Charger Plus? I just noticed it for the first time tonight... They claim up to 8 cells and 7 amps, 150W and includes an A/C supply. Sounds good in theory, but I'd like to hear from someone that's used it... http://www.venom-group.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=0660

Tower has those for $150.

I don't see a spec on the PS, but just based on its appearance (small black plastic brick with apparently no vents or fans) I would guess it would only be good for about 60 watts.

Good point... I'd likely have to end up with an external supply big enough anyway... So far it's looking like a low end iCharger is my best bet! Would a 106B+ and a 150W 15V supply?

If those worked out now, and for some reason I did want more power later, the charger is good for 250W, so I could grab a larger supply and go, right?

Another goodie is the ECO 6-10 from HK. 200 watts. Been using it for a while and it works great.

That Triton has a history of unresolved problems, issues, complaints. Do a Search hetre and there are many unhappy owners.

IMO any charger under 200 watts is only for a rank beginner. One's second charger should be 200 watts plus and the more watts the the better. I got my first 200 watts charger five years ago and thought that I would never need anything bigger. These days 1,000 watt chargers are becoming fairly common. Nice thing about these is they can charge a larger cell count, capacity 5C charge rated LiP0ly in short order.
