Finally finished mine: it makes about 650 watts with a 13/4.5 thin e, and 3s, 25c 3,300 bat.

It weighs 4 pounds, 6 ounces without a battery.

The weather here in the Northwest is horrible so a maiden is in the indefinite future.

So, anyone who has flown, what are your thoughts on a CG? (is the manual right?)

nice, well I'd love to hear your flight report when you get a chance to get it in the air! I have been eyeing the E-Flite Beaver also, it's a little more money than the L-4 but I figured I could get parts when I crash it as I haven't flown any balsa planes yet...but shoot, I could buy another new L-4 for the cost of a wing set for the Beaver.

Would a TR 35-48C motor be okay?

I don't know about the motor, but my Pulso Axi clone is making 694 watts with a 3300, 3s 25c battery-I can't wait to fly this thing.

My God, it weighs 5 pounds with the battery!

I would work out the wattage, it will most likely will be a nice flyer with a good reserve @ 100watt per lb. I used a C-4250/700, Turnigy Cherry 12X6 prop with 607watts @ 48amp 4S4000 because its what I had laying around that was small enough for the L4

I found the CG noted in the manual to be spot on. I maidened mine with the CG at the rear mark. Flew great, very aerobatic (for a Cub). I've since scooted it up a fuzz just to make landings smoother.

I'm at 5.9lbs ready to fly, still a floater.

My CG I flew with was in the middle/rear of the CG range from the manual.

Maidened Ole Yellar, today.

What a non-event: taxied into position, slow, trundling take-off, airborne, a few clicks or right aileron and then a perfect, three-point dead stick after 2 minutes or so (prop too big, thermal shutdown with esc-thank God I installed a bec).

This thing is a big pussy cat and flies just like the full scale version!

BUT DON'T FLY IT WITHOUT THE SPRINGS!

I have not flown mine with the springs yet. So I guess it works?

I had to put my cowl back on and trying it with magnets this time. Should be done today and weather permitting flying this weekend.

Belt and suspenders: I use both rubberbands and springs.

But for you, I probably would have hosed the thing on takeoff.

I doubled mine but have not flown the plane yet. Infact you don't have much choice to double the elastics as when i put them on the first time, i didn't double them and the landing gear couldn't even hold the plane up. It kept opening up. doubled it seems solid enough.

My experience, too, except it eventually folded enough to scare me into using springs: for $5 or less, you can't lose!
