Nice pics SYM ]I still need to work on my dummy engine. I also wanna paint over that CMP log on the cowl. I just noticed Hobbypartz is finally keeping the better Gens Ace 4S batteries in stock so there are a few sizes to choose from. I hope they stay in stock for when I'm ready to buy again. My laptop is on the fritz so I gotta get that this month.

Thank you all. Today was the day. I went to the range and flew the maiden for about 6 minutes then adjusted the elevation then flew again for about 4 minutes. It is very stable and very much fun to fly.
Here is the video of the first flight

Great flight(s)!

symdnn, is that the field at George Bush Park? I've been meaning to get over that way and check it out.

Yeah, that's the one REAL thing I do not like about this plane. It looks good but nothing matches on the market.

Not sure what your covering skills are like, what I did was use Litespan to cover the horiz stab I busted and then painted it. It's very strong covering but you have to put the adhesive (Balsaloc)on the wood first. I used white and it had a near fabric look already. I just used Testors Model Master in the spray can. The green is off a tick but in the air you can't tell. Actually, I think that one of the greens is much closer but it looked the same at the shop The gray was spot on.

Hobbypartz would be smart to sell the covering for all the birds Nitroplanes sells.

Hobby Lobby sells both Litespan and Balsaloc. Depending on how much you need I could throw some in the mail for you. For the Balsaloc I've actually been using another glue thinned with water but it looks/smells the same as Balsaloc and did the job the same if not better. I don't have the bottle in front of me but I'll share it later.

I started my build yesterday, beginning with a quick airbrush pass on the inner structure to cover the raw wood. I also gave it some very light weathering with the airbrush to achieve a dusty, sun-faded look. Figured while I was at it, I'd airbrush over those heinous CMP stickers on either side of the cowl (I couldn't find a decent way to remove them outright).

Anyway point is, I got a VERY close green match using el-cheapo craft store acrylics, mixing "foliage green" with a dark gray and thinned 50% with windex. Get as close as you can and apply with an airbrush over the camo, and I doubt anyone would look twice.

And besides, if you are going for any kind of scale look, check out some WW2 reference photos and you will see that field maintenance crews painted these things with whatever paint they had on hand, and applied it with a mop if they had to. :-)

I'll be flying mine at the Arizona Electric Festival Thursday through Sunday. I've got my dummy engines back on and the landing gear covers as well. I'll take plenty of pics this weekend. Crossing my fingers for no mishaps with it
