Nice Piper L4 at Nitroplanes

Seems like a nice model.

I like the looks of these planes. I saw a few cool videos on youtube of real L4's. Maybe an idea for another plane this summer.

Well I decided to take the plunge. The price came down to 97$ for thanksgiving and i've always wanted one of these.

Another build project for this winter.

Yep, I ordered one yesterday morning too.

Looking around this morning for a motor.

What motor & batt are you going with?

I bought the yellow one that's listed in the same section on NP. Looking at it, it appears to be the exact same airframe. Same size and weight. This one has top windows and flaps and a cooler paint scheme. But other than that, same same. I'm using the exceed monster power 46 ( I think. Maybe I bought the 32). With a 4s 3800mah pack. Haven't received the motor/batteries yet. But they'll be here this week so I'll post a video or at least a review of how well the planes is powered.

I Was also looking at the Monster 46. I read a post somewhere (googled) and now I forget where it was from. The person said the airframe was very light.

I sent an e-mail to cmp to see what they suggest. If the airframe is light enough, i may go with something like a 35-48 or monster 32 and a 3cell pack. Since i'm already using 3cell packs on my other planes, i would save some money by not buying new packs. Then i fall into 6cell packs that I use on my bigger models.

My latest trainee has this motor in a similar Cub running 4s.

Great power set up. Takes off real scale-like at half throttle. WOT and it will hot dog with the best sport plane. Low amp draw with normal flying. 3000 mAh pack last forever.

I'm going with the same set up.

Am I the only one to notice that real L-4 didn't have flaps?

You got me there I looked around with google and from what i can see, the model came later on with flaps - (civilian model). As for the L4, still looking into it.

From what I've seen and read the military L-4's didn't come with flaps at all, and didn't really need them. Not 100% certain but I think the first Piper Cub with flaps was the Super Cub. Just did some more looking and apparently the first Piper to have flaps was the L-14, which was a military version of the Super Cruiser.

I bought one of the L-4's also. I'm probably going to use the Monster Power 32 (I already have one) on 4s and a 12" or 13" prop. Looks like an easy build.

I was just researching the L4. I saw NP's offering and thought' How cool, it has flaps' Then I thought ' if it has one more scale maneuver or function'.... Yeah some had bazookas strapped on but hey.... None I saw had flaps. That just ruined it for me. Nice looking plane too.

I can't wait for it to arrive. I have a good feeling this will be a good flier.

I'd be tempted to blow up (with permission) Pat Tritle's L-4 to that size if you want one that big. Mine is a great flyer and it was quite overweight until I stripped of the double layer silkspan and put on a single layer.

At the field Saturday we were talking about this model and the flaps came up.
This plane certainly doesn't need them. And might actually help crash a few planes with an inexperienced pilot on the sticks.

But it will be fun to play with seeing how "slow-can-you-go".
