First stage is done - electronics assembled onto the board, just charging up the lipo now (I have set the charge rate to 100mA, which should be more than ample).

After the lipo charge is finished I'll have to start working on the firmware to do all the actual lost-model thinking stuff.

Paul.

Couple of pictures of the build. I'm using just one of the cells in the 2S pack here, simply because I don't have any single-cells over 50mAh handy yet (I'd probably try go for a 100~200mAh cell).

I really need to get back to finishing this project soon. Been occupied with other tasks at hand the last few weeks.

Paul, noticed the latest Silicon Chip has a lost Model Plane/Rocket/Stolen Car/Whatever locator project. 433MHz and it uses a picAxe. The thing I noticed was the 0.5metres of Tx aerial!

Haven't bought a copy but it might be worth a read. There's often a lot of sensible reasoning in the articles for these projects that may be things we don't think of at first. Didn't have time to find the quoted range just glancing at it in the Newsagents.

Regards, john

They stole my idea... except I'd never use a PIC.

The antenna is a bit long, 170mm is all you need for 1/4 wavelength. Easier to compensate for the reduced TX output by putting another element on your yagi

I'll have a glance at what they've done - bit of a legal murky water zone though for me to be looking at other 'similar projects'.

Aw c'mon Mr Daniels - you and your super ego.

This is a published construction article. You are SUPPOSED to look at it. Pay for the magazine and you can rest easy. That's what they want you to do. This is a DIY project for dummies like me not professionals. Trust me, from what I saw yours is in a different category of size and usefulness. I doubt if you will find any spectacular ideas you don't already know.

Sadly I've been dragged through the legals in the past over such events... hence the paranoia.

Hi folks - I've been insanely busy with other areas of business lately (promoting novels for Elita Daniels - http://elitadaniels.com ).

Anyhow, the beacon is working but I've not built a suitable receiver unit as yet - anyone still interested in just getting the TX portion and using a 433MHz RX module (only suitable for people who have some experience)

Paul.
