They are also about the same price... maybe a few dollars more than the Zippy's.

On the other hand, a 3300mAh capacity peaking near 70A needs just over 21C, and a Turnigy or Flightmax reading of 25C is a bit close IMO. I would not go less than 30C with a 3300. The 4000 will need a 17.5C so 25C should be fine, but I also have a problem with batteries that have a high discharge rate, and a low charge rate. The bottom line for me is that we just don't buy Turnigy and Zippy batteries anymore because of how Tom beats up batteries. We're using 5 and 6 cell Skys (3C charge rate) and Gens (5C charge rate) in the planes pulling up to 120A.

We're also testing another brand name at the 50C discharge rate and a bit lighter than the Skys and Gens but only have a 1C charge rate, and we don't really have enough data to pass any judgments yet. They do come down a bit warmer than the Skys which goes back to my original question about high discharge and low charge rates.
I also am getting to the 6:45 mark and a friend of mine who is really hard core wide open extreme flying the whole time
is at 6 min and the batteries are quite hot. So going to higher C should help that but it really doesn't extend flight time any correct? that's all about capacity correct? So i need to get 30c and at least a 3300 - 3700

I have 40c sky lipo and 25c gens ace, both get around 7 minutes but temp isn't noticeably different... Both come down warm. I'm using the 480kv motrofly with airboss 80. Even 25's on 3300 should handle 82 continuous amps.. My airboss 80 gets warm well before my batteries!

So I'm finally ready to drop the change on the rest of my electronics. Will be going with a Ice Lite 100...As fro motor and battery, what's the preferred Motrofly number again? And as far as lipos, I will run 6s, but i've heard some folks have had minor issues getting the CG far enough forward. What's the preferred pack size that will keep it light and yet balance it right?

Thanks y'all! Can't wait to maiden it.

Im using skylipo, 40C 4400mah. I fly 8 minutes and I land with plenty of juice left in the pack. I think that easyly I could fly for 10 min but I only have about 4 cycles per pack so I dont want to push too much the batteries!

I just got one of their smaller packs (3s 1800mAh 30C)... And am very impressed with it. Weight, looks and performance compare to the Gens Ace in its size.

Are my eyes failing me or is the Sky 4400 40C 6S only 3.4 oz heavier than the Sky 3300 30C 6S? Can anyone weigh the 4400 40C 6S and let us know?

Regardless, lighter flies better IMO.

6208, HS5245's, Ice Lite 100, 4315-480 all on the way...Now to make a battery choice...

Typically have flown my 42" Slick on 2200's, but considering picking up some 1800's so I can use them for this plane...hmm...What to do... That 6s Hyperion is just steep.

Right everyone, last post for me today before bed People over at the Extra 60 forum have persuaded me to go with this instead as I prefer low/slow 3D !

I'd be really appreciative if you could go over my proposed setup and make sure all is okay in terms of power and performance, flight times, amps, weight, esc amp safety, etc. (bear in mind I will be adding Aurora RC Andromeda lights depending on whether they are right size which will add about 150g to the plane):

Motor: Hacker A40-10L V2 or should I go with the heavier A50-14XS? How much difference will there realistically be?

ESC: Castle ICE Lite 75 or ICE Lite 100 (is the weight penalty worth it for the bigger ESC?)

Battery: 5S Thunder Power 3350mAH 65C

Connectors: Deans or EC5

Prop: Xoar 16x8 (about 65A draw and 1100W) OR 16x10 (73A draw and 1300W) (what's better and won't draw too many amps?)

External BEC: Caslte 10A

Servos: HS-7245MH running at 7.2V via external Castle 10A BEC

Thanks!

EDIT: Should I use HD wires or light wires for servo extensions? Right, off to bed now, haha!

I'm not touching this, other than to say that you won't go wrong with any Hacker, Castle, Xoar, setup IMO, and that for the Extra 300, I'd probably go for more RPMs, meaning more cells, with a smaller prop, because the Extra really shines in high-speed aerobatics as opposed to the low and slow setups we use and prefer in the Edge 540. I'm surprised they didn't recommend the Torque 500Kv setup with the 15x7 APC on a 6S 3300mAh 30C battery.

Personally, I would like to see a video of someone flying any setup they recommend to me so that I could see how they fly that setup, before I invest in anything beyond the recommended setup. Also ask them for pictures of the motor on the motor mount so you can see how they installed it, and then a picture of the clearance between the cowl and the spinner's back plate.

Yes, all ur products are quality. I don't know those particular motors though. My thought is if you want low and slow then the 16" prop is perfect as that is what I use.
I would definitely get larger esc. Weight is not an issue with this plane. I would also use set up that allowed a 16" prop with 6s as aero has already stated.

I use the motrofly 4315 on 6s and 16" and it is awesome!

Also, the castle bec is good idea and the servos should rock!
