mods
clear tape down the undercarriage from fount of the cowl to the vent hole in the tail to protect it from scrapes when landing
and holds down the wing bolt cover
bent the landing gear to get more of the plane behind the wheels
that should help with takeoffs and landing in grass
got to the mod the hole slot thing where the gear go into the wing
to make it stronger

P51 are one of a few good looking models in my opinion.

Here is an extract about the design of the plane
The design, known as the NA-73X, followed the best conventional practice of the era, but included two new features. One was a new NACA-designed laminar flow wing, which was associated with very low drag at high speeds.[7][8] The other was a new radiator design that exploited the "Meredith Effect", in which heated air exited the radiator as a form of jet thrust.

I got five flights in on mine today. The weather warmed up to 75 F with practically no wind. Perfect conditions. I have about 15 flights on this plane now. On my last flight I used an older (pretty heavy) 2800mAh 30C lipo pack. It was the last pack I had which was still charged. The plane flew fine, but I could tell it was heavy. Came in pretty fast on approach. Landing was fine, but I noticed that the gear is now slowly loosening up. I guess I will have to try some of these gear fixes myself now.

Belly Lander ?

Hi,

I want to pick one of these up. Anyone here fly this P-51 as a dedicated hand launched belly lander? I usually fly on grass, and this plane appears to be far less money then the PKZ P-51. Just wondering if this plane will survive the rigors of being a dedicated belly lander?

Thanks,
Ken

ouch thats to bad about the shaft. i recently replaced the stock esc/motor with a tp40a/supertiger.10 on an apc 9x6 sf. i was expecting a lot more punch over stock so will play around with some more prop combos.

was planning on doing retracts but like it as a belly lander for now. probably will do it anyways when i get some more time.

i put a new motor on my mustang
its a Park 480 Brushless Outrunner Motor, 910Kv by E-flite
a little longer then the stock motor
move the cowl out a 1/4" worked good
also added a 1/16 cf rod to the bottom of the Elevator
and two 1/16 cf rods up inside the rudder
the Elevator and rudder are weak and bend easy
but not anymore
and put hinge tape on all the hinges

Hey bhcnomo,
Does that motor fit the stock prop adapter (shaft size) so everything else remains the same?
Nice job on the install.
Thanks
