j3tman,
Ha ha,

Well it did kind of!

Water wasn't very deep, just a small stream.

But hey, it is a naval jet, right!

Here is flight number three from that day!

Wheels out, some close passes slow flying:

F18 maiden 03 (1 min 12 sec)

First flight in 720HD, better quality!

F18 maiden 01 (3 min 23 sec)

Do you ever worry about getting sand or stuff like that sucked in the air intake? But nice job on all your flights, I also left a message on your youtube channel

He's flying off damp sand - a lot less gets kicked up and sucked into the air intake than over packed dry sand.

Colin, how do you like the flight characteristics of this jet compared to your other EDF's?

j3tman,
Stuff like dirt and sand still gets sucked up even on paved surfaces, unless that surface gets regularly washed down - you still have winds blowing debris on it, after all. It all ends up as a thin layer on the fan, and in and around the duct. The thing to really worry about is FOD (foreign object damage) from larger things, like small rocks and pebbles, sticks, etc.

j3tman,
Cool Thanks!

Usually sand, salty water, electronics and fast moving parts don't go well together, but sofar so good.
I have had only a few cases where the edf got damaged, and I have done alot of flights from the beach.
The only thing you really have to worry about is small parts that get sucked in the edf, like crushed sea shell bits.
