Hey Raz, yesterday I finally broke down and spent the money on a MAAC membership. I can see wanting to a "Fun Fly" sometime in the future and it seems you have to have a membership to fly at these events.

Is this the Canadian club similar to the AMA in the U.S.??

Maac is only good at a registered/official field. You won't be covered if you go down to a local park and break someone's property. Although, most of us aren't flying anything huge at a park anyways

I know it's old...worth a double take

Black flies have no respect. I went down to the soccer field early this evening and had the whole field to myself. Before I left, I made sure that the Deep Woods Off was well applied to the body. The black fly will find the one square millimetre of flesh unprotected. This is especially true if you are a R/C pilot and have to just stand there while the black fly has you for dinner.

Worse, black flies have no respect for birds. I had my bird on its landing pad after a flight. I was just going to change lipos. I looked over at the bird. Each blade had not one, not two, not three but four black flies on it. There were black flies on the fly bar paddles. There were black flies on the tail rotor blades. My bird had just done three flights so there was plenty of bug goo on the leading edges of the blades. This did not stop the black flies. I blew them off and changed lipos. They came right back.

I thought I would give the black flies a fighting chance before wiping them out. After the bird initialized, I toggled Throttle Hold to shake them off the blades. It didn't work. I worked the servos in pre-flight. It didn't work. I was now guilt free. I slowly spooled up the bird. A few of the black flies actually flew above the bird. That was all I needed. It was lift off time. I covered as much of that field as I could on that lipo.

When it was over, I looked at the blades. Bugs died this evening. I looked at the landing pad. Yup, there were dead black flies on it. There will be a bit less blood sucked this evening.

I just got in from a few evening flights in the driveway. I was just a bit too well fed after dinner to hoof it down to the soccer field. A thought hit me while the bird was in the air. You guys were talking about the various insurance associated with MAAC and AMA. It dawned on me that outside of a MAAC event, the only place I have any insurance at all is flying over my driveway. As long as I'm over my driveway, my homeowner liability insurance kicks in. Interesting...
