What's less expensive, a sheubler rotor or an 80mm eflite fan?

oh....found the e-flite 80mm. It is $35 from Horizon.
Our Shubie 69mm rotor is $219 and will spin at 70K if you can spin it that fast. (mfgr recommended max is 50K)

Gary, what do you believe would be a good 28mm motor/battery speed combo for the eflite 80mm. Is this a good speed fan? Looks like plenty of thrust.

Gary I am very interested in going into the 110 - 130 range with a Phase 3 f16. What would be a good starting point for equipment and what reenforcement would be necessary for the airframe. Thanks in advance

I know you said Gary but in my opinion for that range you would want a HET 2w-20 and 6904 fan on 4s, should get you to about 120mph. Reinforce the tail for sure.

Few questions Paul. What steps should I follow to achieve sufficient Tail reinforcement in this aircraft? Anything necessary for the wings? Also what is the best way to make this craft smooth. Should I paint it with a finish cure epoxy?

The DF32 motor is 2150kv. (for 6s)I haven't been following the Habu 32 thread much so I'm not sure what the shaft size is. I'm guessing it might be 4mm. I can find out what the dia of the e-flite motor housing is. If it can take a 29mm motor our Velocity 2950 kv (6s motor) would be killer. It has a 4mm shaft. We are haveing some 28mm Velocity motors made. but it's gonna be a while. I'll have to read the thread. The jet is still "pre-order"

Hi Joel, Most guys use light ply to box the tail in (see templates few pages back), I ran square carbon fiber from near the trailing edge of the wing back and bushings in the tail pipe for the elevon rods to go in. I also used short pieces of carbon fiber (3 each wing) to attach my wings and then fiber glassed the wings to the fuse.

I don't think you need to fiberglass the wings on if your going to use the 2w-20 as it's about a 800-900 watt set-up and my old 16 was almost 1600 watts using a 4000mah 4s battery so it was also heavy. If I were you I would go with the 2w-20 and use a 4s 2200mah battery to keep the plane light and have fun with this bird and then when you want something shiny and smooth I'd get the HET F-16 which is fiberglass and wood.

This is just my opinion because after all of the mods and 'prettying up' my old bird I was only 1 once lighter than my HET F-16 with the same set-up, if you want to make the p3 smooth finishing epoxy or water based polyurethane could be used, sand and repeat until desired finish is achieved but than you'll have to peel the paper off the tail and wings and cover with 1/2 or 3/4 once fiberglass.

--2600 4s works really well with the HET 2w20 motor for more capacity and 60 plus amps.

I just finished my F-16 (my first EDF) and incorporated a lot of the things I read on this forum into the construction. This thread, and the related ones, have been a great help. I'm happy to say that the maiden went well and I'm really loving this jet.

Hey guys! I just wanted to see if anyone has tried this yet and if so how did it go?? I plan to use the stock 70mm 3 blade fan with one of Don's wicked 4000+ motors on a 4s lipo. Has anyone out there done this???

Hi everyone,

Excited to comment that i'm painting my PH3 F-16 at the moment. Looking really good on paint scheme but my airbrush is a detail airbrush and having a hard time getting a good spray pattern to cover evenly. So going to borrow my friends airbrush that can spray wider pattern.

This PH3 16 (first one for me) going with an Alfa fan 5 blade/Wicked motor 4800 and 2200 mAh 3s lipo on an Agressor paint scheme finish.
I'll post pics soon as i'm done!

Neverless, I ordered another for 70mm. Looking forward to getting it going.

I like this thread as its been very helpful. Nice to see what you guys have done with this sport F-16. Finally broke down to get one going after so many years!
