The Sapac T-45 ... it is lighter and flies better. It is a bit less scale than the CMP-45.

I have flown both, and the Sapac one is a real good design. It is a bit smaller and the smaller, thinner wing is not really suited for retracts.

But, if you want retracts, then the CMP t-45 is the only realistic option

Thanks. I'll start on the SAPAC first as it seems to be a less complicated build and at my current skill level - retracts are optional. I recently built the Evader + Phazer (fiberglass 56mm) and the Freewing F18 + Exceed F86 (foam 90mm)... and understand the builders/pilot leap from foam 70mm jets to 90mm fiberglass jet is huge. I'm not ready.

When I get to building CMP T45, I'll go 8s with 12-blade fan (i.e Mercury). There's a guy in Taiwan(see his Youtube vids) with the Mercury on his CMP L39 and T45 - they look and sound great.

Hi, you can see a few pictures of my Sapac T-45 here:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1290356&pp=100

The only issue when you build it is to make sure the taileron assembly is nice and tight, and that you use an adequately sized servo (not and hs-55 ) secured well and so that it won't move under any circumstances (ply blocks around it). From what I remember it's a bit tight to get in there.

Btw the reason the Sapac is a lot lighter than the CMP is the fact that the fuse is fiberglass vs. polyester (a lot thicker & heavier, with a heavy gelcoat).

I would suggest fixed wheels on this one.

I was thinking I could maybe possibly get away with HXT900s (because I have lots lying around) in a 1000-1100W setup (MB-1 motor or Lander 10 blade 68mm) with no retracts, maybe flaps, 4s 3300 or 3700mah lipo, 85A ESC but it sounds like I'll need stronger or MG servos for the tailerons.

For the CMP T-45 build, I'd go for HS-82 type servos or 82MG/85MG if I go 8s.

Yes HS-82 MG class servo for the ff elevator (it has to be metal gear), the hxt plastic gear servos should be fine on the ailerons, just make sure they have good centering. I would also use a MG servo on the steering (eg hs-82 class).

Herb,

Truly an amazing thread. There is so much information and so many options. I figured I would make this my winter project here in NJ. I went ahead and ordered the airframe from NP. Right now I'm in the process of ordering all of the electronics.

I'm going to be flying off grass so I will be sticking with the fixed LG.

So Far I think I have the electronics squared away with the exception of the Motor/Fan setup

ESC- CC-Ice100 CC BEC Pro20A (had one sitting around from a heli)
Servos: I'm a fan of Hitec and i trust their electronics
7x HS-82MG Standard Metal Gear Micro Servo
1x HS-85MG Premium Metal Gear Micro Servo U

Here is where I am having trouble. I want to run a 12 blade fan setup with an HET motor. I will be flying a on 6s 5000. I see you have mentioned running a ~1400Kv motor due to high amps. Which HET motor would you suggest? Also If I could get a 12b w/ a quality motor shipped and balanced, that would be a huge win! I love the sound of the 12b setups

If I am missing anything, your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for the help and this is such an awesome thread

Hi Thanks Sounds all good but keep it LIGHT ... 6s5000 might be a bit on the heavy side for the maiden esp. on grass. I would go down to 4000.

As far as motor for the CS12bl 90mm fan on 6S, mine runs on 9S :

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1650746&pp=100

(It's a HET 650 motor, kv=1340. The simple reason I picked a 650 and not a 700 motor is that, being 36mm diam, it will fit ALL 90mm fans, including the WeMoTec Midifan).

http://www.highendrc.com/index_ecat.php?cPath=53_56

http://www.highendrc.com/index_ecat.php?cPath=31_33

http://www.highendrc.com/index_ecat.php?cPath=31_32

I think the 1400kv-1480kv (or maybe even less) might be a sensible choice, I would go with the lighter (shorter) motors with a target power in the 2000W region. On 6S that's ca. 2000W/20V = 100A ca., so you need a good sized esc.

You need to look around and see what amps people are getting with what kv on 6S in the CS 12bl fan ...

Edit : Rush below says ~1600kv is a better choice for the CS 12bl 90mm fan on 6S !

Herb,

I ordered the typhoon 2W-23 to go with my 12b CS. I'm going to run a 9S 4.0A setup.
This might be a dumb question but can I connect a 6S +3S in series? I have only ever done it with two identical packs. I know the mah has to be the same between packs, just wasn't sure about the voltage. Thanks!

Hi - I think there's some confusion here ... We are talking about the 90mm CS 12bl fan,

http://www.x-flight.com.hk/?sp=&p=6&...&cat0=4&id=145

But you might be talking about the 70mm 12bl fan :

http://www.x-flight.com.hk/?sp=2&p=6...&cat0=4&id=176

The HET 2W23 motor (100g) is a small 28 mm can diam motor.

http://www.highendrc.com/index_eprod...products_id=86

For the CS 12 bl 90mm fan you need a much larger (300g or so) 36mm can or even 40mm diam motor.

Opps, I confused myself there for a minute too.

I actually did buy that motor as well but for my phase 3 f16 70mm.

I went with the Typhoon 650-58-1480 for the for the T-45 CS12b. It will be powered by a 9S.

I'll take some pics of the build once everything gets here

Anybody have a spare rudder? I bought my kit from a club member and lost it some how. I can probably make a new one from TE balsa and cover it but if some has one they could part with let me know via PM. I'm hoping to have it done in a month or so, temporary unemployment slowed down the build due to retracts were diverted to another project.
Can't wait to get mine in the air!

Someone pm'ed me they have one but if it falls through that's the plan. I made a new T-tail for a small Dash-8 turboprop so making shaped items is not new just wanted to get one if I could.
