Ok that's what I was leaning towards as well, but wanted to make sure. I did some sanding tonight so they're ready for install... now just have to get the wings ready.
Had to steam out a small crease in the aileron from the tree incident, so now have to wait till tomorrow before I can start the repair. Since the weather is turning on us again, I think I'll take a stab at putting the blades in. I've been putting it off since I'd rather fly

Well CRAP!!!!!
I suspect my tail is way too heavy. Its gonna take 2 oz of battery to make the Topsky Balance. Just cant see having a 2 ounce battery as a good thing. Might as well put a prop on it!!!! I posted in the build thread and will see what people say. I think I will be on the lookout for the lightest weight balsa I can find and then use the microballoons in the epoxy mix this time to secure everything. I even cut the boom down 1/2"!!! |

I saw on your post it is 300 grams. 10.5 oz. isn't bad at all. If you want new tails, go to Monstr.com and order a new set for 20 bucks. Not bad considering they're already fiberglassed and weigh 15 grams for the set. You could even get the airfoil blue set for 40. That would enable you to put the wing servos back into the wings or even leave them and take out the nose weight... Or both. Putting you back down in the 9 oz category. My Raptr weight 10.25 and flies great. I could shave some more out of that down to 9.5 since I have a 1000 mah lipo in there, but I haven't felt the urgency... Like I said, it flies great.
Fly it as it is now (with a real battery - not just dummy weight) and modify it as you go. Move the peg later, change tails later, weight later... |

J, so what is your total boom length? Geesh thats an awkward question 1st thing Wednesday morning...........
I will take your advice J and just fly it. Seems silly that these are not designed as light as possible and then add ballast @ CG for conditions. Why would you not use a 2S pack and 2S capable servos? Less is better right? Good news is that if I do go with old school brick battery I can use cheap servos for the tail vs Dymonds which apperently run on 2S just fine. |
