I'm planning 09's for the flaperons and 285s for the tail. Haven't bought any of it yet. Haven't decide if I'll put 'em in the wings or not. Jeremy, how big of a hassle is it to take the wing on/off with the servos in the pod? I'm mostly leaning towards putting the servos in the wing...

Jon what receiver are you planning on using?

I have a bunch of JR DS285 Digitals I could use. If I go with servos in the wings I'll need to pick up a couple more Hyperion DS-09's you can get the SCD version for $25.00 each shipped just need to order 4 or more. I need another Spektrum AR6255 receiver.

I was thinking I would sit back and see what the rest of you guys ended up doing.

I will use the Assan 6 or 7 channel rx.

Is that hyperion the one everyone recomends???? It seems there are several versions.

I was wondering about this rx.

If anyone needs a Hyperion programmer let me know, you can borrow mine.

Jon, that's the only one that is not a metal gear servo, or so it looks from this sheet. I doubt metal gears would be needed for DLG wing servos... just added weight.

Mike, not sure which Jon you're asking, but right now I'll be using an AR6225 RX same as my B2. I am just about ready to jump off the spektrum wagon (dx7 is too limiting) and either upgrade my Futaba 9c to FASST or Assan or I'm going to just buy a Hitec Aurora. Where are you buying your DS09's?

The question worked out great getting an answer out of both of you. I didn't think Jon L. was running Spektrum but had though you where. Wasn't sure if running the AR6225 was going to be over kill or just a better safety precaution.

Mark Miller who runs isthmusmodels.com is selling NIB Hyperion Altas DS-09 SCD 4 for $100 shipped. Previously I just messaged him here on RCG. I've already picked up 4 of them from him and had them in a couple days. If anyone else need DS-09SCD servos I'd be willing to order a bunch more I'm only going to need 2 so it would help me out.

Definitely use 285's on the tails. The Hyperion DS09 SCD's work well in wings because they are thin enough to fit these thin airfoils. 285's would work fine for ailerons as long as you mount them in the pod, because I don't think they are thin enough to fit in the wings (not 100% sure on that but I've never heard of anyone installing them there). To be safe, I would stick with George's DS09 recommendation. Otherwise build a stock B3 with all 4 servos in the pod. Wing mounted servos will be more work to build, but not a ton. They do provide shorter stiffer linkages with a better (more outboard) horn location on the ailerons. This is important to really strong throwers like George because inboard linkages are more prone to flutter, especially if they aren't super tight. Most of us don't throw that hard though, yet... maybe never... I like the ergonomics of having all the electronics in the pod, easy to get at. But it does make things crowded in there. Disassembly isn't a big issue either way. You either unhook the aileron linkages or unplug the servo connectors, take your pick.

As for batt & reg, I like the Rhino 360mAh 2S LiPo (less than $10); and there are several small regulators to choose from. Paul Daniels makes a sweet switchjack / regulator / low voltage alarm combo unit, for like $36. Skip Miller sells a nice little regulator / low voltage alarm combo for about $20. Or you can get just a plain jane regulator for less than $10.

Get the Hyperion DS09 "SCD" version. You don't want metal gears (to sloppy).
