I am also contemplating converting my 450FBL to belt when I get around to building it. But I did already get a 500 carbon fiber tail fin for it so that might be enough to keep it off the ground, but man that thing is huge!

Hi shahram72

How about using a 500 undercarriage? I had a problem with grass getting tangled up in the tail mechanism, so I modified a 500 (Gooch, IIRC) u/c to lift the body further off the ground.

Quite pleased it doesn't look too out of place. I would think that plus your 500 tail fin would keep everything out of the kitty litter.

Just a thought

Hi All

Looking for a pair of 450 SE (non-fbl) main blade grips. I need them in black, but all the shops I look at are either blue or titanium.
Any ideas?

Get plastic ones, they are quite strong. I have them on my cheaper kits. They hold two outer 3x8x4 bearings and one inner 3x6x2.5 bearing. You would need 4x8x4 and 4x6x2.5 bearings for the 4mm feathering shaft. Not sure how these would interface with the pro head block, if at all. There are spacers as well on the SE (V1) head. Check the SE manual for an exploded view.

Border Lord, I don't like how that looks, kills the low profile look. I suspect mt 500 tail won't look to nice either. I'm hoping mine looks like a Tarot or Align PRO FBL when it's built. The HK canopy is going straight in the trash. Yuck!

Beauty is in the eye, etc. I quite like it, mainly because I don't have to spend hours untangling grass from the tail mechanism.

Plastic holders would do, but the rest of the head is metal and I need blade grips to match.

The search continues

Thanks anyway

Hey guys, thought you might like to see this. Arducopter on a Franken-450 flying a waypoint mission. She's a heavy beast carrying a fair amount of UAV equipment for such a small heli. The APM board which is mounted on a entire subframe I made, LED lighting, and a GPS and Magnetometer on a new mount where the gyro would normally sit. Plus the avionics are running off their own 2S 370mAh battery. The 3S 2200 only runs the motor.

Arductoper 2.9 Waypoint Demo (2 min 52 sec)

On the subject belt conversion, I converted my HK450Pro FBL to belt using this gearbox:

http://tarot-rc-heli.com/Tarot_RC_He...l-Box-Gear-Red

And this boom mount:

http://tarot-rc-heli.com/Tarot_RC_He...l-Transmission

I think that boom mount is intended for a TT, but I'm using it with a belt and it seems to work fine.

BL, I don't know if it helps but I have a complete KEEP 450Pro fly bar head you can have for free. It feels quite tight but could me made to work if you want it.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the offer, would like to take you up on it.
For free doesn't sound fair, at least something for postage, or is there anything you need for a swap?

Thanks

I didn't know they sold just the TT front gears without the metal shaft: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Set-T-rex-...item2ec33302e4

Can you just remove the damaged gear from the shaft? Do you attach it with ca glue?

Put a spacer between the frame and the rear of the landing gear to lift the tail off the ground more.
No need for oversized gear, cheap(may need longer bolts), adjustable (thicker spacer = taller tail)

Are the TT umbrella gears inside the boom mount exactly the same as the ones in the tail casing?
