That is only true for a few seconds while they are spinning up.
Once the head is up to speed the only forces resisting rotation are aerodynamic loads. They would be higher for the longer blades, but the weight of the blades would have no effect.

Ah! I see, thanks for the clarification.

DX6i & gyro: HH mode works, rate mode doesnt

Hi guys. I flew my newly rebuilt 450 heli today. In HeadHolding mode it flew nicely (no 3d: just beginner stuff)
In rate mode the tail just wanted to spin in 1 direction, needing full rudder on the radio to try & compensate.

Now I will fly it in HH mode, but would like to know why rate mode doesnt work.
DX6i, tarot GY550 gyro, henge MD922 servo
gyro settings on the radio are 67.5% (HH), 45.5% (rate)

I know that on the DX6i, below 50% is rate mode, so is 49% the max sensitivity
for rate mode or is max at 10% end of the scale ??

Cheers

You need to set the tail up in rate mode so that the model maintains its heading. A good starting point would be approx 8 degrees of pitch on the tail to compensate for the direction of rotation of the head. With this done you will be able to toggle between rate mode and heading hold without drift. This can be done by moving the servo along the boom, unless it's a 450 pro with a fixed servo position, in which case you need to be adjusting the length of the control push rod.

The 49% is the minimum RATE gain, with 0% being the maximum. Since you have 67.5% for HH, the equivalent gain for RATE would be 32.5%. I would increase the gain on RATE mode (ie. reduce the number below your current 45.5%), but this will not fix your problem. As just mentioned, you need to adjust the length of the tail control rod (or slide the tail gyro along the boom) to change the pitch of the tail blades until the heli stops spinning in RATE mode. It will take a few goes to get it right, and no need to get it exactly perfect.

I had a great experience yesterday flying with a set of VCTRC 3G blades on the Tarot 450 Pro FBL. They have matching CGs and only needed a little balance tape. They track very nice in flight. Cyclics and collective felt good and gyro performed flawless. Also with the black carbon fiber with white they are easy to see in the air.

just FYI guys...
be carefull with hobbywing esc's.
There are ALOT of fake hobbywing esc's out there, me & a friend have both been sold fakes in the past (unreliable and/or faulty )
Even Hobbywing know its a problem now, they have a serial no checking webpage to check for fakes , but Im sure the fakes will find a way around that as well.

so just be carerfull where you buy them

It all depends on how you use the radio.
If you use the Gyro Sens function then you get the "0-50 and 50 -100" thing.
I always simply use the gear switch combined the the Travel adjusts, and you get -100 to 0 and 0 to 100.

Gyro sens has different settings for each flight mode, but with an Electric heli you only really need one flight mode anyway.

edit - looking at the DX8 manual, it is not clear which method they are using for the gyro function. DX6,DX7 and most JR radios had Gyro Sens, DX8 might be different.

Which HobbyKing 2200 Lipo ?

Hi guys.
Whats the better HK lipo, for reliablity/long life.
Nanotech, Turnigy or Zippy ??

Im still in beginner mode so 25c sould be more than enough
I was going to get another nanotech 25c. (I have 3), I also have 2 planes that I fly with the 2200's so would prefer to keep all my 2200's the same weight to keep things simple with CG's.
Some of my nanos (not just the 2200's) seem to have 1 cell that drops to a lower voltage than the other 2 cells after use. Is this just the norm with cheap lipo's ??
Cheers

You forgot to include 'Rhino' in the list, which happen to be the ones that I use. I'm doubting you'll get any consensus on this. Everyone seems to have their own favourites.

I think you just need to get some of each and make up your own mind, that's what most people will do. Ultimately they are all very similar but it will come down to how you treat them as to how long they last. At 12 to 15 dollars a pop it's no big deal to experiment with a few sorts.

I'm not a fan of the Nanotechs... Stick with the Zippy or Turnigy packs but get 35c packs..

Worn Pulley

Look what's left of the front and rear belt pulley....

Now im wondering how to prevent it, apart from landing in long grass
I might just run the belt a little tighter next. I do treat the belt with silicone spray before installing.
