Hi guys,

Im rebuilding after my last crash and was thinking of hotting it up a bit. What hobby king motor do you gour reccomend for a hot 3s setup? Im doing loops rolls and flips and am starting to want to chuck it about a bit harder. I have been running this one.

Hobby King have the Futaba GY520 Gyro back in stock if anyone was after one.

Andy, the 2218 is one option to step up from the 2215.

Andy, what Lipo packs do you use? If your still on 20C a motor upgrade will do exactly.....nothing.

I like my 2627 motor a lot. it has a little more oomph on 30C+ packs than with the H2215 motor.

Hi, Thanks. Have you run both motors? Im not sure I would motice the extra 100kva. Im happy with my headspeed I just dont want it to bog. I know I should watch my collective managment but I want to be able to slam it.

This is a bit off topic but I have also been watching this thread. A guys building a scale airwolf around a 700e. Working countermeasures, retractable guns, air brakes on the retracts, real cameras in the surveillance pods, hot pilots. very cool.

If you want to bang the sticks hard just reduce the throws of the servos in the tx and it wont bog,,slam away

The larger motor should be capable of more torque. Torque is what you need to prevent loss of head speed.

You want the largest motor with the highest Kv and the smallest pinion to maximize torque and minimize head speed changes under load.

I have run both. As pmackenzie has alluded to, the difference in the motors is torque. the 2218 is larger and heavier and sucks more juice. I've gone through maybe 5 of the 2218s back when I was on 3S. various crashes, 1 started stuttering, 1 had the shaft just shear right off (in flight). but I still used them for their power. 12t or 13t. I used 13t.

Another weekend, another rewarding but frustrating flying session.

Rewarding - I went through the entire head and reset everything up again. Mixed out all the CCPM interaction and got the pitch straight on.

Frustrating - Despite my ample application of Loctite, the heli threw a tail grip. I had just bought a set of Pro grips to put on, but I didn't have the plastic control arm that the grip took with it... And, of course, the LHS doesn't have the part in either V2 or Pro.

I guess it's not a big deal, it's raining here now anyway, so my flying was pretty much done for the weekend.

Oh im sorry, that motor is on my 250. lol.

I have the typhoon H2215, and on my other 450 the 2836. I run it on a 13T pinion getting a little over 3000rpm with 100-93-85-93-100 throttle curve and about 12 degrees pitch. Its unboggable with my skillset.

I've had my Trex 450 kit laying around for a while and never built it (yet). I plan on using some 'old' electronic components:
-Gyro: Futaba GY-240
-Tail servo: Futaba S9650
-cyclic: HXT900

Am I good to go with these or do I need to upgrade with more up to date servos from HK?

I spotted a few servos that might be better:

Just try them. you can always upgrade later on.

I use a 2218H in my HK 450 Pro, with a 13t pinion. I've seen it draw as much as 55A, so you need to watch your pitch range. I actually prefer to run it in governor mode at 2800 rpm for 7 minute flights. I'm waiting on a 12t pinion to try too, and funnily enough, a 2215 motor to see what kind of flight times I can eke out of the system. I would suggest that with a 2218H you need a minimum of 25c packs. My 2218H thru a noisy phase when spooling up, no matter what timing it's on, and I also find 16KHz PWM to be a bit more efficient.

I'd like to be able to do these stunts in my living room. Could someone recommend a good setup for my HK 450?
