450 HK with Futaba EX radio and 3114 FASST servos SLOPPY?

Hey guys, I have this 450 V2 with 3114 Futaba servos and the 6EX Futaba 2.4 radio. The helo is really sloppy in handling. My 500 is rock solid. But this one is just messy. Is it because of the Expo settings? I have them set at 0. They came set at -40. Do I need to set it up in the postive range or is there some other reason? Its been sloppy since I got the combo. I cant seem to tighten up the handling. The Helo seems to be set up properly, the gyro and tail are solid. Its just pitch, roll and yaw are all over the place. I can fly it without crashing but the landings are really harry. Where my 500 lands like a pro.

TIA

my 450 sounds like yours , the 250 is solid as a rock like your 500 . i am going to try setting up my 450 like the 250 with the swash setting rates for aileron and elevator to a low setting . i hope this will tame my 450 too , give it a try and let me know how it works .

Jombo, thanks.
I set up my 450 just like my 500. The 500 is a joy to fly.
I have the 450 swash level at 50% throttle, and it flies fine but its
all over the place. It feels Like I am rowing a boat with the
Futaba 6EX 2.4 Mhz. Its a new radio for me. I have a JR 8103
for the 500. I was going to move to 2.4 with everything and this
was my first attempt. I bought a 6EX Futaba with the receiver
and the 3114 servos in a heli max helo. The helo was pretty much
junk. The Heli max gyro never worked. the motor locked up in
6 flights. SO I moved everything over to a new 450 HK Helo from
Hobby king. It flies just like the heli max did. Real sloppy.

Its real windy right now so I will have to wait. My Futaba/450 is
setup just like the JR with the 500. Expo is Zero or linear in the JR
I dont use the DR yet but I am curious .
Jombo, I will use your tips as soon as the wind settles here in the Mojave desert.

i have the futaba 7c and think the menues for the swash are the same. in the swash menu , there should be a set percentage 0-100 for ailerons , elevator , pitch . the settings may be either too high 70 or 80% on the ailerons and elevator , or too low 10 to 20 % and you can give it full left and right and forward and back and it hardly does anything. check the pitch levels , ,unplug the motor and with the throttle at 60% check your pitch left and right aileron and elevator , if there high like 6 degreese it may be too much , i have either 3 or 4 degrees and its almost right .

Thanks Jombo
Are you talking about the swash setup where I set (to start)
the swash at Aileron at 65
elevator at -65 and the
pitch at -65
Yea I unplug the motor and go to 50% throttle and check for 6 degrees pitch
The servos are all at 90 degrees to the arms at 50% throttle.
THe one ssetting I dont know too much about is the Swash -T
you can have it on OR off and mine is on and set at
aielron at 20 elevator at 20 and thats the only settings.

thanks

is that the pitch at 50 % for hover or when you tilt the aileronsor rudder , if your at 6 degrees pitch at hover and you give 6 degrees of pitch with the ailerons you now have 12 degrees . way too much for hovering , you only need in the ailerons 3 degrees. to check pitch on the ailerons put the pitch slider on the blades and tilt the ailerons this should tell you where your at in pitch

Jombo No I dont have 12 at hover. I have 6 degrees at 50% throttle on the blades
checked with the pitch gauge relative to the flybar. I have 12 degrees at Max throttle.
I have 12 degrees at Max throttle on all my helos with pitch guage. And 5-6 degrees pitch gauge relative to flybar with pitch gauge at 50 % throttle.

I use a pitch guage. Could you explain how to measure pitch at the ailerons with the pitch slider? (Whats a pitch slider?) thanks I could use all methods possible.

JOMBO FIXED! I just increased the swash settings from A +65 to 75
e from -65 to -75 and
pitch from -65 to -75 and solid like a rock!
Just like my CMT HK 500!
Man I bought the HK 450 to replace the helimax 400 that came with my radio
(Piece of Crap) and the HK 450 is a freaking JEWEL!!!! Love the hobby king birds
I think I paid $29 for it!!?? DEAL OF THE CENTURY!!!
I love Hobby King birds. Now if I could get them in one week instead of a month I would
be in Helo Heaven!!

I believe Futaba has the Expos opposite of JR/Spektrum. Where as, you would normally have +40% expo to tame down the controls around center stick. Futaba would use -40% to tame the controls at center. You should be able to tell by moving the stick very little and compare how much the swash moves with the diff expo settings. Less movement around center stick is gentler.

I had been flying a bunch of Walkeras, with 0 expo, as I like a fairly touchy control, When moving to a "real" heli with the Zyx FBL system, I settled on +30% expo. From what I have read,..with FBL, you don't go by how much pitch your Ail/Ele has on the bench, because, while in the air, the system will only use as much pitch as it needs to get the desired pitch/roll rate you have set in the software.
