Serious? he he, huzzah, let the games begin!
My new batts for the F16 got shipped today. Should buy me a bit more speed (i.e., not hit LVC on launch! Nano-tech my left testicle...)

What did you order and from where Ody?
HK lipos are a waste of money when your talking high performance. Great value for everything else.
Also, what C rating is your left testicle by the way? Maybe that's your problem.

I have 2 500 3S here and it balances but they are heavy. Those tiny lipos Dave used are $24 each
I know they are good but $24 is alot for a 2 minute flight. I am examining my options.

Ozzi, they're not HK batteries I'll also need a new charger to take full advantage of them, but it'll at least get airborne! They'll be a mid-range pack, not TP's, but hopefully a decent step above NTs.

I think in general I'm starting to move away from HK stuff for performance. The ESCs still rock, but pretty much everything else in the power chain I'm now getting elsewhere (fans - german. Motors - yankee. Batteries - ??)

how do you guys measure the RPM of these high power fans?

I popped into ModelFlight today to have a look at their tachometers, but they only go upto 32k rpm. Are there models that can measure above this, or do you use a different method?

I've never measured the RPM of any of my fans. I just kind of use proven combos that I've read about online using the best quality components I can source. This is vital when your talking high power EDF.

I have an electronic tacho. It uses the pulses going from the ESC to the motor to determine the speed. Great for EDFs, as you've seen, they run outside what an optical tach can handle!
